That is a great view into the core in Ottawa.

^That’s a great bridge.

It’s like a cross between a muscular but utilitarian American truss and a more delicate, ornate British Victorian design.

Tuntex Sky Tower for the win!

Halifax is looking great in all the photos recently.
On my Asia trip our Kaohsiung -> Osaka Kansai flight was outright cancelled so the airline put us up in the Sky Tower hotel. The included buffet dinner there was a welcome sight to some poor backpackers!

^ Looks like Mt. Mansfield in Vermont is clearly visible in that first pic! Looking pretty epic for an Eastern mountain vista.

Yeah, the Green Mountains are looking a little Rockies-esque in those photos!

After moving back to Montreal from Hong Kong I was reminded that the mountains are visible most days, even though they're at least 100km away. It's easy to take that kind of visibility for granted until you live in Asia and you're lucky if you get 30km visibility...

Montreal is certainly visible from Mt. Mansfield and Jay Peak, both in Vermont, as well as (apparently) from Whiteface (NY State)...can't verify the latter as it was usually cloudy when I skied the latter.

I recently visited Gibeau's Orange Julep and hotdog stand (orange sphere in the last photo). Good (albeit unhealthy) eats.

Can you see them from anywhere on the ground in Montreal? Or do you have to be up in a highrise?

In Taiwan I lived about 20 km from the mountain range that runs up the central spine of the island, and it was never visible save for on very rare days after heavy rains that washed the smog and humidity out of the air. You'd get this amazing view once every two years or so, and it was always startling (and somewhat terrifying).

That’s not a recent pic- the Lamplighter apartment in the centre was stucco’d over a couple of years ago.

You can see them from anywhere south-facing on Mount Royal, namely the Kondianronk belvedere and the streets of upper Westmount. Not so much if you get down closer to sea level.

I went to Taichung for the first time at the end of 2019 and it was remarkable how much smoggier it was than in the north. I've been to Taipei many times and it's not unusual to have days with very good visibility (at least when it isn't raining, which it almost always is), but as soon as you head down the coast the air gets so much hazier. It was also nearly 10 degrees hotter than Taipei which might have something to do with it.

In Hong Kong, the visibility is usually best in the summer, but even then there's enough humidity that it blurs things out. I remember going to Tai O on a particularly hot, clear day in June and being shocked that I could see the Macau and Zhuhai skylines with perfect definition. Of course they were only 35km away!

Hopefully it gets demo'ed in the not too distant future. It's jarring how Ottawa transitions from the grandeur of Wellington Street to depressing low brow apartment blocks so quickly.
