I Think It is called "At the Park near Maywood"
.....
Close,...
But no cigar.

It's called 'Maywood on the Park'

https://intracorphomes.com/communities/maywood/

(not a very imaginative nor creative name, all things considered, but the park's literal name is 'Maywood Park', .....and it's adjacent to......Maywood street.

As you can see, not a lot of brain cells were burned out crafting these imaginative names.
But at least it's exactly what it says on the tin, and they can't get anymore descriptive about what you're getting.

I actually like your name for it much better and think it's more succinct and to the point)

The old Cactus Club on Kingsway in Metrotown has been fenced off. A sign of the 63-storey project moving forward?

Here is a map I made of the future projects around Metrotown.

Purple 180m+
Red 160-180
Orange 140-160
Yellow 120-140
Lime 100-120
Green 80-100
Blue sub 80m
White means unknown height but is to be developed

Number is number of floors, asterix* means estimated.

Probably some errors but feel free to point them out, or anything I missed.

What project is this? Isn’t the Cactus Club on the north side of Kingsway?

on the pic posted above of upcoming towers, the spot in white is of the Cactus club in question and it is just a bit to the left of the yellow spot that says 41, near the centre of the pic.

It appears to be called "Metro King" and developed by Anthem.

Seen on page 27 in this pdf

Wow, that’s great, at 63 floors and mix use with office it must be over 200m, maybe even near 220?

Kingsway will become quite the canyon lined with at least 5 true skyscrapers.

Come to think of it, the Anthem newsletter does say "63" for Metro King, so you can probably insert "63" there.

Two that I can see missing are a proposed tower by Accorde properties (currently in rezoning application. Have already had a First reading, if I remember correctly) at 6556 Marlborough Ave and Grimmer St. :-

http://www.accordeproperties.com/residential/marlborough/
https://www.urbanyvr.com/al-fresco-dining-terrace-planned-for-34-storey-burnaby-condo-tower/

....
....

...and also, currently under development is the lot at Dow and Beresford (@ 6691 Dow Avenue) by Matchpoint Properties Developers, next door to Moda.

https://matchpointdev.com/

Rezoning Application:-

https://pub-burnaby.escribemeetings.com/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=46513

Also worth noting that along with the Accorde properties tower across the street on Malborough, the lots just north of them (up to the Lane behind the row of retail properties fronting Kingsway) are also slated for development and possibly currently in design development proposal (I think they have applied for rezoning already))

EDIT :I don't know how to reduce the image size or resolution on the board interface, so if anyone can help with that, it would be much appreciated.

Idk how to resize the images. Maybe try the "decrease size" option (shown as two downward arrows)

Thanks for the corrections. I'll make an updated map then. There are SO many projects going on in Metrotown so I ought to make some new threads for these new ones.

I'm hoping we get some more (solely) office towers too in the mix. I'd love to see some 200m+ office towers surrounding the park that is to be built in the center of the mall, but I wonder if by 2040 we AI takes over will office really be necessary.

Just an addendum to the chart - The Polygon site on Olive is in fact two separate projects. One is at 5868 Olive Ave, and the other is at 5900 Olive Ave

See Rezoning numbers 17-10000 and 17-100001 here https://www.burnaby.ca/Assets/city+servi...r+Development+Projects/2020+December.pdf

City of Burnaby to buy Fortius sports facility for $26.6M for public recreation

Quote:
The City of Burnaby has inked a $26.6-million deal to buy the land and facilities occupied by a state-of-the-art sports centre.

The city has signed a purchase and sale agreement with the Fortius Foundation to buy the five-acre property at 3713 Kensington Avenue, along with a 146,000-square-foot building that has been occupied by Fortius Sport and Health for the past seven years.

The city intends to operate the facility as a recreation centre.

"By purchasing the Fortius facility, the City of Burnaby has secured an important recreation asset at Burnaby Lake in perpetuity," Mayor Mike Hurley said in a statement.

"This purchase will ensure this facility, located alongside the city's sport fields, ice arenas and swimming pool at Burnaby Lake, continues to deliver services that support the recreation and athletic needs of residents."

The sale's closing date is set for Feb. 1, 2021.

B.C. mining magnate Scott Cousens donated $23 million to launch the centre in 2013, in what was called the largest donation in Canadian sports history at the time.

The facility opened as an integrated athlete development centre, with a double gymnasium, a FIFA-standard turf pitch, fitness centre and office space. Its patrons ranged from amateur sport teams to Olympic athletes.

The site announced last month that it would shut down at the end of the year due to financial pressures fuelled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"While we are deeply saddened to close our doors, I am proud of the efforts our team members made to leave a positive legacy in our community," said Cousens, Fortius's founder and chairman.

"We are happy to know the facility will continue to contribute to the health and wellness of Burnaby for years to come."

The deal will also reimburse Fortius for the balance of the pre-paid lease on the adjacent sport fields, which are on city-owned land.

The city is redrawing its plans to replace the C.G. Memorial Brown Pool and Burnaby Lake Arena with a new Burnaby Lake Sports Complex, across the street from Fortius.

The city says the Fortius purchase will result in savings for Burnaby taxpayers, including significant savings through reduced space and parking requirements.

The city says it will share more details about recreation programming at the facility in the coming weeks.

I didn't know about this project, but there is a massive dyke that has been going up along the Fraser River in South Burnaby.

The fence they have chosen to use seems like quite an overkill and I don't understand why some pieces used are completely rusted as new? What's the point of that?

They wanted vertical walls for the dike, I assume for a smaller footprint, so the fencing is required.

The rusted sections would be made of Cor-ten steel, designed to form a stable oxide layer to protect the steel instead of using galvanization. Perhaps they are just trialing a few sections as a pilot project.

This is at Glenlyon Parkway and they have the ridiculous two-sided fencing even around sections that are not elevated. It seems so unattractive and a wood fence would have been much more attractive. Both the rusted and non-rusted parts are identical and many rusted parts have been properly installed. It's totally random and looks so odd.

The added bikeway is of course a nice addition but it seems like an overkill at many spots and is not very attractive by its design.
