Anyone know what's going on at 22nd & the Pkwy (south side)? I only passed by so didn't get to take a look but seemed like there was site prep or...something.
Any ideas?

Could this be the start of the Calder Museum?

I'm was pretty sure it had something to do with the Calder plans, but an Inquirer article from early this year has it in the 2100 block of the Parkway, rather than the 2200 block where the present work is ongoing per the permits below. I walked by today and see they've added a circular low stone wall on one portion of the 2200 block. I'm thinking maybe they revised the location for the Calder plans.

Alexander Calder will finally get a prime museum site on the Parkway, across from Barnes and Rodin | Inquirer.com

A little more than two decades after a Calder museum was first proposed for the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the long-dormant idea has blossomed again, funding has materialized, and backers say that, by spring 2021, construction should get underway between 21st and 22nd Streets across from the Barnes Foundation and the Rodin Museum.

Many details of the project, which would feature works by the endlessly inventive Alexander Calder, creator of the mobile, still have to be worked out, but supporters say they are committed for the long haul. Major funders include the Neubauer Family Foundation, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and the estate of H.F. “Gerry” Lenfest.

Thanks! That's really cool if it's true. I was wondering if fallout from Covid would halt those plans for another few decades.

The amount of open using and people passed out in the street is incredibly concerning. These are issues that absolutely need addressing before dropping an apartment building like that in the neighborhood.
Word on the street is they are allowing the open using and the neighborhood to worsen so property values drop and investors can come in buy up properties and push the people out when everything is bought.....

Also is there a reason we can't rebuild original row homes on blocks instead of making a random new one in the middle of the old ones? keep the neighborhood original and on empty blocks build the new ones that would look so much better.

If the deal feel through with the developer for the family court house hotel, I wish the city would rethink using this building for something more suitable for that locations by adding to the culture of the area. if the Calder Museum is a go, I would love to see the old family courthouse turned into a museum space rather than a hotel. reestablish the Civil War Museum of Philadelphia. the parkway was established to be a cultural district. this would add another notch the belt. but this is just me daydreaming. think a hotel for that property is a waste.

I agree, plus don't forget about the former Boy Scouts building nearby. That'd be perfect for a rotating art display of some kind.

Speaking of cultural attractions, anyone in Fishtown know the status of the West Museum? 1115 Frankford Ave.

A Christmas (Eve) Miracle? Painted Bride Facade Could Be Preserved After All

Current site:

A reader reached out to us yesterday and let us know that they had received notification of a community meeting in Old City regarding a proposed development at this address. This letter indicates that the developers are seeking a variance for a new plan which calls for an apartment building at the site with 70 units, 10 short term rentals, 12 parking spots, and a retail space on Vine Street. The letter also explained that this plan would entail the removal of the roof of the existing building but that it would preserve the entirety of the existing facade. The renderings from Atrium Design Group seem to confirm this.

45-Unit + Retail Plan Approved in Northern Liberties

Current site:

Quote:
Earlier this month, the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) approved the owner’s plan to build a 6-story, 45-unit building with ground floor commercial space, 9 surface car parking spots, and 30 bicycle spaces on the site. This is a less dense plan than the 50-unit proposal that the owner originally presented to the Northern Liberties neighborhood group.

Some updates in Manayunk.

This bar seems like it was being renovated for over three years and finally opened a month ago or so.

The Rook. Former dive bar turned into a "trendy" bar.

Large development right off 76.

Formerly the Spicy Belly directly across the street from my place. It died because of covid. Surprisingly something else is going in. I'm glad to see this. I'm hoping that most bars that close during covid open up as something else.

New beer garden right off Main St.

This is not Manayunk

^Nice update, much appreciated.

The Post Brothers - The Popular - is wrapping up now, great example of adaptive reuse. Such a weird location in the city with those 90s suburban style townhouses and cul-de-sac's nearby! This building will have 3 rooftop pools, wild.
