The GTA West corridor (it hasn’t been assigned a 400 series number yet) is proposed to run through a new greenfield development area on the west side of Brampton.
Brampton is asking the province to have the highway turn into a 10 lane urban boulevard through the area to support an “urban form” or whatever. Brampton is now planning a bunch of high density uses right along this “boulevard”.
It’s monumentally stupid and will not achieve either the cities goal of creating a more urban environment or the provinces goal of moving goods. I honestly don’t understand it. The boulevard would be a huge traffic bottleneck that eliminates most of the benefits of the corridor, and would create a massive traffic sewer that would probably be worse for pedestrians than a more standard 6 lane freeway.
A more reasonable ask should be more freeway crossings and more pedestrian friendly interchanges.
