Burj Khalifa has a lot of unusable floor space due to the core required to get people and services up to the top.

Also the top 29% of the building is unusable vanity height. The purpose of that building was simply to be the tallest building and is a vanity project anyways.

I think the Burk Khalifa is by economics standards the textbook way of how not to build a building.

...it was impressive though.

Personally, I think Winnipeg’s potential power with 60+ floors can try to be something not too glass-heavy on the exterior. There are too many tall skyscrapers with homogeneous glass facades, and light pollution is becoming a bigger concern. Here are some examples from New York City:

30 East 29th Street

180 East 88th Street

45 Broad Street

^ those are all nice, particularly the broad street project (an absolute architectural gem IMO), but I just don't see how the business case can be made for such structures here.

^ Beautiful buildings especially 30 East 29th Street... Sadly I don't think we will have towers of this scale in Winnipeg for a long time. Maybe when I'm an old man lol

That would fit in nicely on the pie lot at Notre Dame, Ellice & Smith.

Ottawa has something like that, albeit a lot shorter. It's one of the nicer recent projects in the city.

Another bang-quake reported last evening. Slip form crew off-site today as a result. All I know for now.

I'm not an expert here. But is this the steel joints like settling out, or slipping? Or did they drop a hollow core slab?

In general that seems not good to be continuously happening.

I was thinking what name

call the future restaurant (not earls)....

If it's on the 40th floor, call it

"the 40th"

Years ago, I had a premonition vision about Confusion Corner Bar & Grill...the exterior looked quite like my vision despite not seeing architectural drawings here or elsewhere...

So, we'll see.

Was the first incident not attributed to a piece of hollowcore being dropped? Why does this keep happening? Not to cast any shadows here, but if these "investigations" keep bringing no structural faults to the table, is there any chance this is due to the crane operator being unfit for the job?

Absolutely nothing to do with the crane or the operator.

Thanks Hoss.

Do you know if they're during hollow core or steel placement? Or just at random times. Seems they would be after the building has new load applied and something slips. If they can't find anything in the building, hopefully no foundation issues.

It should be noted that crack monitors and seismic sensors have been placed all over the building and are being continuously monitored.

It definitely has nothing to do with any suspended loads bonking the structure.

Am i correct to assume that based on the usernames "cranehoss" and "wincitysparky" that any issues with this building will never be related to the hoisting and welding? Haha.

Ahh that makes more sense. For some reason I read sparky and thought welding.

Ok hoisting and electrical.
