Not sure if it was already posted here, but there's another hotel project aiming for that
tiny empty lot in South Park next to Luma and EVO (1130 S Hope, 12th and Hope)

There was another project approved there years ago, but I guess things fell through and that permit expired or something. This one would be 11 stories, 114 rooms, and have a small retail space at the bottom. No restaurant/bar like I think the previous entry may have had. Seems low-key enough to fit into the neighborhood, though there are already so many empty storefronts under the buildings in South Park... hopefully the post-covid resurgence brings them to life.

Damn, that other one was so much better. But I think it was some dentists behind it, so perhaps they didn't realize what they were getting into. Now we're left with this...

7th and Maple would be amazing if it moves forward. Amazing for the area and for the skyline as it starts to extend south and east. Will be it's own island for a long while, but it's that depth to the skyline that we so desperately need.

I hope this is happening.

With developments pushing towards skid row rather quickly.....I wonder how long will it be for the City/County and other homeless services down there to realize it might be time to find a different location/area to move to. I don't foresee people living in these new developments remaining quiet for much longer, before we start hearing a rallying cry from new DTLA residents screaming "DO SOMETHING ABOUT SKID ROW". The homeless problem is slowly being tackled but skid row needs some new leadership. Cant be ignored for much longer.

Also....For those who say "Stuff that gets proposed downtown have a high chance of not happening". I think we have a good track record as of late. It may take years but it happens HAHA.

LOL, as somebody in the urbanize comments noted, "I like how they show their towers completed and Oceanwide still under construction"

While "just another glass tower", it's good to see some of these old warehouses and parking lots make way for nicer developments like this. South Park is really filling in very nicely. I dig the reuse of the old building in the middle, at least that's what it looks like.

I really hope we do see more serious development pushes eastward into "skid row" sections. The more residents, the louder our voice to cause change I suppose. The conditions of the streets are really just a shame - we should be doing much better as a world-class city.

Sidenote, but the NIMBY squad is out in full force against that 1130 S Hope hotel. Local condo residents don't want their view blocked or pool shaded, though perhaps they should take a look at the development maps to see how much of a lost cause that is. Could make for a spicy neighborhood council meeting tonight.

While there has been a fair share of development downtown nothing particularly tall has been built since the 90's (aside from Wilshire Grand Hotel).

"Particularly tall" being 800+ feet. Not sure how legit the current 800+ proposals are tbh.

I guess it's okay though since LA needs to fill in more than anything. I like that 12th and Grand proposal released today!

You buy a condo downtown, what did they expect? You’re living in what should be the most dense high-rise area in LA. To think your view would last forever, let alone think you’re entitled to it is extremely stupid. Anyway, that smaller 1 story building in the center of the two buildings was always one of my favorites. Love the facade!

Those pine trees on Grand will grow to be over 100' tall when mature. In 50 years, just imagine something like this but with skyscrapers on either side. There's a few other streets downtown that have those trees, but you generally don't see tall pines used as street trees in downtown areas. It should make for a very unique urban streetscape in the future.

I don't know, it's better than another generic blue-green glass tower, or another stack-of-balconies tower

Who said anything about tall? lol I've begged for a sea of 300-600 footers and we seem to be getting just that. Downtown doesn't need five 1k footers and 3 1500 footers at its curent state. It needs exactly what its getting right now, 300-600 footers here and there with a surprise 700-1k footer in the mix. Once the construction boom starts to edge eastward and finally get on the doorstep of skid row, and I mean 6-8 developments of decent size (and height), THEN i'll say that's when we should be looking for the 1500 footers. We're honestly lucky we have 2 1k footers with possibly 2 on the way.

I know, that's why I said DTLA needs to fill in more than anything, it would still be nice to see some 800+ buildings though.

I personally don't ever see a 1,500+ footer happening in LA or even the US outside of NYC (mayyybe Chicago). The two 1K footers planned currently are jut troll projects it seems since there's not much info on the developers behind them. Olympia and Angel's landing are the only decently tall proposals but we haven't heard anything on them in ages.

^^^ Not necessarily. People forget that when the US Bank Building was completed in 1989/1990, it was the 6th tallest building in the world and tallest building outside of NYC and Chicago. So. I can totally see LA getting a 1300-1500 footer fairly soon honestly and something taller within my lifetime (I'm 32). Its funny, LA has always had some of the tallest buildings in the world, until Asia threw its hat in the ring in the early 2000s. I always laugh when people roll their eyes at LA for not having a crap load of tall buildings when in fact, rewind 20 years or so and the entire downtown skyline was in the top 100 tallest buildings in the world lol. That's why I'm focused on 300-600 footers at the moment. Density, price point, viability. Fill in more gaps, add about 30 more buildings downtown in the 300-600 range and LA will for sure get a 1500 proposed. I already have a location in mind (Looking at you smart and finals on fig).
