SmartCentres poised to bring residential into power centres

For those who can read French, long and interesting report about the transition towards mixed residential/commercial uses in power centres.

I knew this was on the horizon, but this report reveals it's in the cards for more places than I thought.

Not surprising... I've been expecting a proposal for the site beside South Keys station for a couple of years now. Almost the entire block between station and the theatres is empty. Perfect spot for some residential.

SmartCentres has been pursuing this aggressively over the last few years. It started with their Vaughan site on top of the subway which was upzoned about 10 years ago, and now they are pushing it on basically every single SmartCentres across the country.

They just got approval to completely replace their Cambridge Smartcentres with 10,000 residential units, for example.
