That is going to be one busy area once all the infill is done. I'm sure that Sobeys is less than pleased that their main competition is building just across the highway from them!
I believe that discussion threads like this should be flexible to keep them active. With that in mind I'm going to say that this thread can now cover the area bound by Bedford Basin to Papermill Lake to Highway 102 down to Hemlock Ravine Park.
A construction permit has been issued for 612 Bedford Highway for a mixed-use building consisting of 4 storeys, 1800sq ft of commercial, and 41 residential units. There are already excavators on site. This is located immediately across the street from Fisherman's Market.
HalifaxRetales said on Twitter yesterday that one of the tenants of the strip mall being built there is IHOP. (There's also going to be a pizza place, barber shop and dentist office going in the other units.)
A construction permit has been issued for 644 Bedford Highway for a 52 unit / 6 storey residential building that was approved by development agreement a few years back.
This is 612 Bedford Highway, it use to be an empty lot mostly for parking at Fisherman's Market. I think it changed hands since a previous proposal, I had heard in the area of 5 floors. Foundations are starting.
Regarding the low density of 612 Bedford Highway it is likely due to the Secondary Planning Strategy. Many of the properties along the road are limited to 50' as-of-right. Some developers prefer to build to the maximum allowed without having to go through the exhaustive development agreement process.
HRM desperately needs to finish Centre Plan so they can move on to updating the Bedford Plan. It’s woefully out of date and based on a time when Bedford was seen as a quaint little village. Development is getting ahead of planning here and there are going to be so many missed opportunities for meaningful density.

I work for Superstore and I heard from a corporate staff member that this project is supposed to open in March 2021. It is probably the first new Atlantic Superstore location to be built in close to a decade.

I'm on the building site, and can confirm handover date is March 1 if no disasters happen.
