From my memory the Marpole transit center was going to Translinks first all electric bus depot located on vacant industrial lands beside the Canada line bridge. It was suppose to have all depot-charged buses to replace the rest of the diesels that currently run out of VTC. I’m sure it’s a money/timing issue as the federal government just included more funds for electric buses in there recent budget.

End of 2024. Seems like they discussed it at last month's meeting.

Updates: R6 Scott Road, Lynn Valley Terminus

Lots of "smaller" updates came out today:

First, translink.ca directs you to the new website by default (at least on desktop)

==https://alerts.translink.ca/==
Lynn Valley is receiving bay designations, however to a bit of confusion (but as this is being typed up, the posting on the alerts page was done half an hour ago)

Bay 1 is designated ID 59526 NB Lynn Valley Rd at Mtn Highway. 229/240 NB
Bay 2 is designated ID 54182 SB Lynn Valley Rd at Mtn Highway. 228 SB
Bay 3 is designated ID 53977 NB Mtn Highway at Lynn Valley Rd. 210 NB
Bay 4 is designated ID 54003 SB Mtn Highway at Lynn Valley Rd. 210/229/240 SB, 227 NB
Bay 5 is designated ID 58314 WB 27 Street at 1200 Block. This is currently the layover for 227 and 229.
There is a hidden bay 6 which is closer to Library Lane and is the layover for the 240.

From what I was told, the setup for bay 5/hidden bay 6 only runs from start of service until 2100 as these are stops right in front of an apartment complex. No kneeling the bus because of the loud beeping noises. However, construction around the area of bay 1 is not done yet last time I checked. Under normal operation, after 21:00, the layover would be moved to Bay 1. N24 retains its layover in bay 1 once construction is complete.

Meanwhile I'm under the impression that construction is complete.

==R6 Scott Road Rapidbus==

TransLink has released the plans for the R6 RapidBus. This is the designated route to replace the 319 Scott Road Station which runs along 72nd to 120th to Scott Road Station.
1) There is *no* stop for KPU-126th (I'm sure the KSS will fight very hard to have a stop at the Surrey Campus.) - I bet no one here has seen KPU during class change time, so unless you have seen it yourself, keep the comments at a minimum.

2) There is *no* stop in Scottsdale Exchange but I'm sure that with feedback, there will be some sort of accommodation made. (edit: That's as far as the map is showing - Scott at 72nd is not the same thing as Scottsdale Exchange)

I've gotten slack because people say that the bus will stop in Scottsdale (which **CLEARLY** the map **does not** display)

There is no official consultation as of yet but feedback can be sent to the feedback site.

Also in the article:

Quote:
Future RapidBus routes under the Phase Three plan could entail:

Lions Gate RapidBus: from downtown Vancouver to North Vancouver’s Lynn Valley neighbourhood via the Lions Gate Bridge

Commercial-Victoria Drive RapidBus: from downtown Vancouver to Marine Drive in South Vancouver via Hasting Street, Commercial Drive, and Victoria Drive

Ironworkers-Willingdon RapidBus: from Phibbs Exchange to the Millennium Line’s Brentwood Station and Expo Line’s Metrotown Station via the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge and Willingdon Avenue

White Rock RapidBus: from Newton Exchange to White Rock via King George Boulevard

Coquitlam-Langley RapidBus: from the Millennium Line’s Coquitlam Central Station to Langley Centre via Lougheed Highway, Golden Ears Bridge, and 200 Street

Earlier this year, TransLink launched the region’s first five RapidBus routes, including the conversion of two B-Line routes.

In 2025, coinciding with the opening of the Millennium Line Broadway Extension, the existing 99 B-Line is expected to be rebranded as a RapidBus, with the route truncated between UBC and the new Arbutus Station bus exchange.

1) Anyone going to KPU will just use the stop at 128th - walking distance from their is negligible vs switching to a local bus to travel one stop and then walking.

2) This one is pretty weird. It's basically between the stops at 72nd and 75a Ave. I would have thought they'd have a stop on the street (similar to how the R1 doesn't pull into the Surrey Central loop but stops on the street just outside of it). It does basically say that the stops aren't finalized yet.

I wonder if that 'White Rock RapidBus' is an extension of the R1 or a separate route.

Well I just saw the damnedest thing. I was driving eastbound on 41st Avenue between Fraser and Victoria tonight and there was a guy on a bike in the curb lane (the lane that's restricted to buses during the day). He had a backpack on, and the back of it was covered in an array of yellow LEDs that was flashing out the messages: "R4", and then "41st Ave" and "Rpd Bus".

I wonder if he takes Compass Cards...

I hadn't heard about that. I'm surprised there's even one of them, I'd be astonished if there were more...

Haha what? Bay 5 and bay 3 are a solid half a kilometre away from one another, may as well get off a whole stop earlier.

The area around Bay 5 is still under construction. It might be that more of the Bay's move over there when it's all done.

Ugh, I hate this kind of interchange where it's just bus stops around an intersection and theres that one that is a world away from the other ones.

Perhaps it is related to potential congestion at Bay 1, which is adjacent to the Lynn Valley Road/Mountain Highway intersection? According to the schedule, the 240 does not stop at Bay 1 at all until after 9 PM. I don't know if TransLink would want to move more buses to 27th, though, as there are only two routes currently using that street. Both the 229 and the 240 use it as part of their route reversal, the 229 (apparently without stopping) in order to get back to 29th Street and the 240 as it heads south towards Lonsdale and Marine Drive.

Off street is king.

Are you referring to the end-of-route/layover points? That would make sense in principle, if the 240 were to drop off and pick up at Bay 1 but layover at Bay 5. In this case they appear to have removed a major route with connections from downtown, Marine Drive and central Lonsdale from stopping in the main area altogether in favour of a stop several blocks away.

EDIT: Looking at Google Maps again, there is a stop for the 240 prior to Bay 1 about 200m south on Lynn Valley Road - just north of 29th Street - where riders can connect to the 227, 228 and 229.

I believe that since 240 schedule was buffed in April, terminus space would be some sort of an issue hence why 240s lay over at bay 5.

Looks like we went over the different stops where people can transfer frok 227/228/229 to 240 which is good.

Bay 5 has an interesting design. Bike lanes run right behind the bus shelters while the surrounding area is made up of new apartment buildings. Cue the complaints.

I'm talking about a proper exchange where you can stand at any spot and hock a loogie at any bus bay sign.

As has been said numerous times, socialism is a great thing until you run out of other people's money.

This kind of bald-faced social engineering will have the inevitable effect of distorting the housing market, just like 99% of the other planning failures out there.
