Is that the only bike lane section they've added amongst all of that new development on Cambie?

I used to ride Cambie a bit, it's a bit of a nightmare on the painted lane, I much preferred Ontario or Heather.

before this idea of putting bike lanes everywhere, that was the idea. the whole point was for bikes to use non-arterial streets. its better for many reasons.

Exactly the point I was trying to make. Parking in this city is practically viewed in the same way as cigarette smoking. Evil and bad for us.

Richards St. was repaved over the weekend.
Not sure how much, but at least between Georgia and Robson.

Paving and marked lanes at Richards & Smithe.
They did a good job of leveling the pavment, as the curbs seemed at different height before they were paved.
Two skinny lanes, as expected.

Well at least they have settled on one style of bike lane and intersection! Looking forward to checking this out. Hornby is pretty steep in some sections.

Richards between Dunsmuir and Pacific will be the first 'gold standard' bike path project downtown. Unlike Hornby and Dunsmuir which are a large part built on top of existing asphalt, Richards has got it all - raised, smooth new pavement, roll curbs on either side, green infrastructure in the boulevard, consistent intersection treatments, a dashed centre line, and a decent width all the way along.

It's too bad we won't be getting the same long term treatment for Drake initially.

The City of Burnaby is seeking grant funding from senior governments as it prepares to spend nearly $20.5 million on construction of the Highway 1 pedestrian overpass.

City council recently authorized staff to pull $20.45 million from its community benefit bonus reserves for the project, while also directing staff to apply for a grant through a federal-provincial program aimed at funding community, culture and recreation infrastructure.

The overpass is intended to connect Burnaby Lake and Deer Lake, while also integrating the city’s trail network with the Central Valley Greenway.

I'm guessing that this would be aligned to connect the disparate sections of Sperling Avenue?

What I'd really love to see is a new bike path put through Burnaby Lake park just south of the rail right of way so that cyclists on the Central Valley Greenway could enjoy the park and avoid the traffic and occasional hills on Winston St.

It's not the energy going up and down ramps (or hills) that is the problem. It's the impact what faster cyclists hit them at speed. When you hit something like a typical driveway ramp or a sidewalk to curb ramp at 30km/h with no suspension it's just about enough to launch you into the air.

Any cyclist worth their salt, and I'll put myself in that group, should have enough sense how to ride over a bump. Step one, get your entitled @ss off the seat. How hard is that!

The Richards St. Bike Lane is open from Smithe St. northwards (I assume north of Georgia too).
Bike traffic lights, etc. are operational.
