This project was ushered in the era of meddling from City Hall that has claimed many a project in downtown Vancouver. Rankin was an idiot first class, and would fit to today's loonie political scene like a glove. The number of things that man was against is staggering.

It must be connected with that part of the wall they exposed. Assume they'll rip up the exterior wall above that point as well.

I'm not totally sure that the blue wrap is exposed membrane from under the concrete cladding.
I think it has been layered on top of the concrete cladding.
My thinking is that they may do a crappy cladding job of layering aluminum panel over top of the concrete panels.
CF just did a horrenduous recladding job at the Simpson Tower in Toronto.

I hope not, I actually like the pre-cast concrete. Just came back from Toronto and witnessed the horrible re-clad of the Simpson Tower, certainly hope that's not what they're planning.

I meant that they ripped something up and then just covered it temporarily with the blue wrap. If they can do all the windows from the inside, I doubt they'll reclad the building because it would be too much work.

There's also quite a few more support sections so they are either going to expand it or go up 5-6 more levels?

Don't worry that is not the plan.

Also CF did not reclad the Simpson Tower, they own it but are not the active managers.

My guess is since CF have already copied W Hotels Toronto press release, they may continue this trend with the previously mentioned rooftop bar and now maybe even the cladding. The Urban Toronto forum has some recent constuction photos: https://urbantoronto.ca/forum/threads/to...s-larco-architectsalliance.30795/page-12

Ahh, I didn't catch the similarity.
Makes sense if W is renoing the old Marriott in Toronto - 1970s vintage brutalist building -
the same could be true here (though not as brutal).

Maybe there'll be a lighting feature across the facade?
Hopefully it's not a second glass skin (or maybe that would look good?)

By me today.

The black materials look to be along a line that a bit further west than the mall corridor wall.
It lines up with the supporting columns on the plans below.

Side note:
They are going to fill-in the loading zone on Georgia in front of the rotunda!
There's already no stopping in front of TD Tower for the buses.

From the DP Report.
Lots of space on the 2nd and 3rd level for classrooms, services.

Now we can't see what's going on.
But it doesn't look like it'll widen to envelop the whole building.
