Global News, CBC, and CTV have all now projected an NDP government.

That's amazing. I knew they were at least going to get a minority but they have so far been holding the lead pretty well.

And you assume the mail in voting will be pretty similar to the election day results so I wouldn't expect any chances unless there are some really tight battles.

Would the next election reset to October 2024?

CTV News now projecting an NDP majority government as well. Global still holding off.

5 minutes later and Global joins the chorus.

Go Wilky Go... into early retirement. No way they keep him as party leader.

I used to be vehemently anti-BC NDP, but have warmed up to them in the past three years. They haven't screwed over the economy (yet?) like the doomsayers have been predicting, and I can't vote for the BC Libs with their current leader.

PS - where are all of the posters who thought the BC Libs would win/win a majority?

Please, please let the NDP lead hold and Jas Johal get booted out. Easily the most annoying MLA. Would also be great to see the NDP’s Henry Yao defeat Alexa Loo.

one of the not-so-secret stories of this election is the demographic shift in south of fraser. younger and more diverse people and families moving from the metro core to further in the valley. Surrey used to be a tossup between NDP and liberals, but have flipped mainly to NDP. even further east to langley, mary polak dumped by langley. langley east uncertain about the long term as mark warawa played the conservative spoiler, but now rich coleman's old riding seems orange. and chilliwack?

bodes well for further infrastructure improvements to hwy 1 and skytrain to surrey/langley

Both CTV and Global show a few Richmond ridings going to the NDP. It looks like they've managed to flip a few Liberal ridings (and Andrew Weaver's Green riding) to NDP.

So it looks like you can break out the champagne.

Wow. I was optimistic about the NDP getting their majority, but seeing Cloverdale, Langley, Langley East, even Chilliwack turning orange...just unbelievable. I hope the rising threat of vote-splitting with an increasingly progressive Green Party helps keep them honest even with the majority.

Definitely looks like the Liberals are having an identity crisis- they can either be a socially inoffensive "economic responsibility" party, or they can fully embrace the right like the Alberta and Ontario Cons. Wilkinson kind of half-assed it both ways, he didn't cater to the crazies but he certainly didn't keep them from getting nominations. The leadership convo is going to be really interesting...

I haven't been to SSP since May 2, 2019 (apparently) and did not even know there was an election until my nephew pointed it out to me via Viber. Can someone quickly summarize as to why the BC NDP is so strong as of late? Is it just because of the leader or the BC Liberal Party?

1) Horgan has done an excellent job in office as a moderate centre-left premier
2) BC did really well on coronavirus

Honestly the ndp are popular because they’ve done a good job, period. Simple as that.

As much as I dislike NDP (which might change now that they have a majority mandate), I lowkey hope Henry wins simply because he used to be my boss (more like supervisor).

I'm not sure about #1 since I haven't really been following. But a quick glance at the Vancouver Projects and Construction section seeing office towers still go up, then I suppose its true that despite being BC NDP, he wasn't as bad as the pre-Gordon Campbell era types (i.e. Glen Clark) that were really disastrous. So I guess if he is doing a good job, then he made a right call for this apparent snap election.

For #2, yes I agree that BC did well on the Covid 19 situation. Personally its a good thing that they did since I pretty much forced my elderly parents to fly back to Vancouver from the Philippines back in March since the situation here was getting really out of hand. And the fact that they are doing very well over there, very safe and all, I do give credit to the Provincial government for making it happen.

Wilkinson's goose is cooked. It will be interesting to see if the BC Liberals fracture into 2 parties again.

As for the NDP, just praying they keep their recent centrist ways. Please no 90s NDP mad with power.
