I did’nt notice until I read your post. A distant secondary skyline in the making. Will probably get much bigger too.
I didn't think so, that's why I wanted to mention it.
I'm sure you've been there recently, but the whole area (along with the new Boulevard du Quartier overpass and the REM station and overpass) is quite something to witness!

I know! I don't go to the south shore very often these days, but I did recently on my way to the Eastern Townships and I must say the boom around the future REM station is impressive.
I don't find most of Gatineau looks like Ottawa. The older dumpy parts as I said are like a hard-luck NE US mill town. Ottawa only has some very small pockets that look like that: Vanier and Hintonburg/Mechanicsville.
Vanier is the only part of Ottawa I could mistake for Gatineau (not necessarily the dumpy parts you are referring to, but the “average” Vanier”). I just did a quick virtual tour on Google Maps to refresh my memory, and I still think it could pass for Wrightville. I also find that Mechanicsville shares similarities with the Vieux-Hull although that area is changing. The architecture is not necessarily the same, but I am talking about the feel in general.

I would agree. All three have an abundance of small, early 20th century working class wooden houses. Montréal Road in Vanier has some similarities with St-Joseph in Hull, Maloney or Gréber in Gatineau.
