Compared to the Chinatown gateway this think looks like something rendered out of scraps at a construction material scrapyard.

Maybe it's not the gateway itself but the fact that from many angles it appears to be a 'gateway to nothing' that bothers me more than anything. It does look great in that rendering. Oh, and how are these not bowling pins??

I like the San Jose and Niagra Falls, NY arches. San Diego looks like a beech town archway. NYC is a little plain and doesn't scream "Italy" to me (ignoring the fact that it says Italy). That thing hanging from the Providence one looks like a Pineapple.

Here's ours. I didn't always like it, but it has grown on me. Same with the pins and soccer ball.

The pins are actually soccer players, there are eleven of them comprising a team. It took me a few years to realize this

Is it that the guy's mouth is closed, and his nose is gigantic? Is it that he has a bald chin?

Something is going on with the blue guy's biology.

Also, the only 'ethnic' colour is ...yellow. Even though..this is a rainbow.

There is literally nothing I like about that sculpture and, now that you point out the beard, I hate it even more. It's not my neighbourhood so people can have their own opinions but I would be sad if they built something like that near me. I've been to Italy twice and I don't remember that being a common artistic style

Will it? Icon is barely noticeably taller than other buildings coming over the hill from Kanata. You can't really notice the height coming from West until you're pretty much driving perpendicular to Preston because it's at the bottom of a gully with the large hill on Carling to the West. I doubt this 30 story tower will be very prominent when driving Eastbound. It will be very noticeable from the East end like Icon is however.

Nothing to due with the 417 but:
It should also be noticeable northbound on Bronson after the Riverside/Heron interchange. I really like this view of "the city" from atop that small hill just before the bridge over the Rideau.

Yep, and it will be outstanding from Prince of Wales after the roundabout.

Hey, I filmed and edited this video. The neighboring building is not in the video because I don't know when they get occupancy and I don't want to breach someone's privacy.
