Oh wow! Nice. Can't wait to visit this one. Coincidentally, I was just at the Salisbury Green Pig Country Market yesterday and bought some local chicken and a pack of Master Indian Spices.

It's almost like that atrocious brick building at the west of the Avenir Centre. I doubt it's historic but it gives a tinge to the entire centre development. If you want to have good architectural lines you don't want old houses or buildings to get in the way. My opinion only and opinions vary.
Charlottetown is a perfect example of what happens when you retain your historic buildings. Moncton is an example of what happens when you do not. Mind you Charlottetown also has a much more dense core than Moncton, but Moncton has also tore down its fair share of historic buildings, the old train station immediately comes to mind. South of Main Street there is almost no buildings at all let alone ones with any historic significance. It’s 75% parking lots.

As you can see, they have a large patio dining area, and the furniture has arrived and has been arranged, but there is still no evidence of any canopy over the patio area, even though support beams are present. The Canopy has been installed on the main entrance into the hotel - why not here too????

Here is the menu:

https://www.monk10taproom.com/menu

The menu seems rather exotic and is moderately expensive. The tap room is focussed on craft beers. This restaurant obviously has plans to be one of the premiere dining destinations in the city, and should be a strong rival to Carrabba's Italian Grill just down the street.

According to the restaurant website, they intend to open "the week of October 19th" - just around the corner.

Photo of the same from Retail Talk & Share

It's too bad with the pandemic that the Avenir Centre is 95% shut down. Otherwise, this place, and the soon to be opened Monk10 and Carrabba's restaurants would be doing gangbusters business.

Looks lovely.
Great menu.
A bit stiff on the prices.
Really, I can't wait to visit.
Monk 10 is kind of a dumb name though. Took me several hours to figure out what it means.
Then again, I'm not that bright.

$20 Entrees at a fine dining restaurant are not expensive.

Gonna be shades of "Who's on First?" goin' on:

A: "Where you wanna eat?"
C: "Moncten?"
A: "Well, obviously. I mean where IN Moncton?"
C: "I dunno... Is it too cold for the patio?"
A: "What patio?"
C: "The one at Moncten."
A: "There are lots of patios in Moncton! Which one?"
C: "Moncten!"
A: "JUST PICK A PLACE!"
C: "I DID!"

Regarding this building planned for 106-124 Weldon Street:

I found this tidbit of information on the Spitfire Design Studio website:

Quote:
This modern 6-storey, 86 unit luxury apartment building boasts a mix of spacious 1 & 2 bedroom suites, secure underground parking (incl. two-car tandem spaces), a gym, common rooms & tenant storage.
Need a bit more living space? It also has 2 & 3 bedroom, 2-level townhouses (fronting on Weldon)
So, the two storey podium fronting on Weldon will consist of 2-3 bedroom townhouse units (each with separate outside entrances, but presumably with interior entrances as well, to allow for access to amenities and parking). This is a very neat feature, and would certainly appeal to upscale professionals interested in a downtown urban lifestyle. These townhome units could be very popular. It would be interesting to see a floorpan.........

Yes of course you are correct. Their prices are comparable to other eateries of that type and perhaps even better than some. I'm clearly turning into one of those old people who think prices should correspond with two decades ago. "What! $30 for pants? Outrageous!"

I do this all the time.

Very interesting that the townhouse suites will be two level units. And the outside entrance is also a nice feature. I agree that they should be very popular. Overall, this project will really enhance the neighbourhood. It'll be a big improvement over what is there now.

Could these be the first townhouses in downtown Moncton?

In a configuration such as this, I imagine that it is (in the downtown that is).

I have seen plans for the reconfigured street grid south of Main (which may or may not get built at some point in the future). It shows infill residential which is high density, some of which appears to include multi-unit townhouse podiums in low rise apartment buildings such as this.

As per the above, this is the planning document in question (from 2017). A fine piece of work, illustrating one possible destiny for downtown Moncton.

http://www5.moncton.ca/docs/Downtown_Core_Community_Improvement_Plan_Final_Report_2017.pdf

Please note the section dealing with a "Brownstone District." This image was lifted from that section:

So, the idea of urban townhomes in the downtown area is a sound one, and we may see more of them in the future. This would be a huge step forward for the core area............

There is a really good example of this in Charlottetown. The parking is behind the building. https://goo.gl/maps/WWMFNWjeiVtibF8R9
