Oh, are those balconies?! Or some type of extra dimension to the southern side that I've not seen (or noticed) in any renderings?

Maybe it's going to be some type of internal glass atrium where you can overlook the open mutual space from the offices. Otherwise, if it's some sort of outdoor balcony, that would constitute a major departure from the original design.

If you're looking at what I think you're looking at, then its probably this:

Based on the diamond pattern on the left hand side I think the floor being framed right now will be the top floor. Renderings show three full diamonds and that floor is the one that's needed to fit in the third one.

Think we’ve got a few more than that. The floor worked on is 3/8 out of the top “X”. Think we have 2-3 additional floors to go, then the additional for the crown bracing.

X (25-32)
X (17-24)
X (9-16)
v (5-8)
(0-4 or 1-3 depending on your perspective, where 0 is on the NW corner and nonexistent on the SW corner)

Number of floors

The several articles I've read about this tower mention 30 or 31 floors and I count 25 so assume there will be 4-6 more floors.

This angle is of the SW corner, however the NE corner has one or two additional floors (I think it’s only one, here’s a webcam view https://public.earthcam.net/tJ90CoLmq7Tz...west_peachtree/camera/panorama_-_regular) due to the change in grade at the site.

Will be fun to see how many more we have left, as this one has been contentious for some time!

Looks to me like it's topping out. I certainly hope there's several more floors, but, as I said in my earlier post, we've got room for the top diamond now, and renderings don't show it rising above a third diamond.

Most articles I’ve seen have referenced floor counts of 31-32. However, these numbers are inconsistent with almost every other piece of available data (renderings, floor plate size, building height, etc.). The floor counts are either incorrect (perhaps reflecting out-of-date information) or are including multiple subterranean levels. The floor numbering on the construction elevators imply that there are at least 2 basement levels (assuming that the lobby level’s mezzanine is counted as a separate floor), which is plausible based on the original excavation. This, plus the absence of a 13th floor, might account for the discrepancy (i.e. the top floor would be labeled 31 even though it is only 28 floor above ground).

That said, regardless of how the lower levels are numbered, if the renderings are correct, then there should be about 2 ½ floors to go, plus the crown.

Either way, it's now the same height of The Icon (minus that weird box thing on the northern side) so at least we know that it will for sure be taller!

40 West 12th, the subject of the article, is the condo tower. If you zoom in on the webcam, the current floor doesn't look any different than the other floors.

egads. OK I will repeat myself. There is room for the third diamond with the top floor for which columns are going up right now. Renderings show it topping out with the third diamond. Anyone saying several more floors is saying it rises several floors above the third diamond, which renderings don't show.

To those of you saying several more floors, tell me what's incorrect about what I just wrote above.

Which rendering are you using to make this assessment? There have been several renderings published. Although the building size has been consistent, the alignment of the bracing has differed. Based on your description, it sounds like you are referencing a rendering that does not match the as-built configuration.
