I saw a sign that I think it said 36 units of modular housing on KGH at 80th ave, at the site of a now closed up restaurant.

Saw this coming. That'll be a lot of trees to cut down that many people will be unhappy about though. Glad to see SkyTrain taking steps to move forwards.

Hoping for 2022 construction start with 2025 finish.

There was one group upset in the past but the article points out they have been made satisfied with the proposal. Surrey also added more trees to the south end of green timbers by extending the boundary so ultimately with construction, Green Timbers is gaining total trees.

Besides that, a few trees along a major corridor will have a 0.0000000000000001% affect on global pollution levels.

Couple that with the amount of CO2 reduced from vehicle emissions with the Skytrain extension... It should be an environmentalist's dream.

Don't underestimate the 0.0000000000000001% effect. If our sun is 0.0000000000000001% hotter or colder, we may be all doomed.

If every city helps to lower our global warming by 0.0000000000000001%, then we can reverse the global warming

The bigger takeaway from the article was the future of the Centre Block:

“He wants to see greater density of office space, particularly on a former recreation centre site known as Centre Block. The site, owned by the city and Simon Fraser University, is adjacent to the City Centre SkyTrain station, and has development potential for two million square feet of space.

The SCDC completed a master plan last year and is submitting for rezoning this year. It will be one of the corporation’s final projects. The city announced in June it would dissolve the SCDC and transition real estate assets and operations to the city.

Heeney believes the key to Centre Block’s success will be a major tenant, such as offices for senior government, which typically requires 10s of thousands of square feet of space, or more.

“One of my big pushes before I depart, is to try and get as much momentum as I possibly can for this project,” he said. “The challenge is generating an order of magnitude of adjacent office development, to really tip the balance, and create that critical mass for a central business district — that’s the big challenge.””

So basically he is implying that he wants a 50 story pure office building in the centre block. Seems a like a plan to me.

Tech companies like to get closer to university and SFU is expanding there.

When the future high speed railway between Seattle and King George Station arrives, it will help the area a lot too. As you know Seattle is also a tech heavy city.

I would be SO down to work for SCDC through the development of the centre block. This is going to be an exciting project no matter how tall the buildings end up being. If anyone has connections with the developer let me know hahah

There was also some noise a while back about the federal government potentially building some offices in surrey, presumably in the centre block.

Hopefully not.

Unfortunately given the covid situation which has delayed several projects, I don't think we'll see any new construction on the centre block for a couple years.

Just saw that as well. Good news.

I think they had previously allocated land on the parking lot between the campus and bus loop for future campus expansions. Is that where the new medical school will be built?

Be a pretty speedy build if they are going to have the 2023-2024 grads graduating.
