There have been exemptions from the start for critical travel associated with keeping the supply chain functioning, health care, energy, etc. That said, most companies are only approving travel as a last resort.

As we all know this is very unlikely to happen as it is on paper.

I still don’t even believe what’s happening in November. Let’s see what actually comes out of this.

Most airlines appear to adjust (*cough* cut) flights even two weeks out.
Any mention of Air Canada coming back to YCG in February?

they just changed something that now allows family members to travel, two of the big cases have been a Canadian woman with a Scottish fiance, she has been dealing with some kinf of medical treatment and he was denied being able to visit her and be with her while she goes through it, the other is a woman who is dying of cancer with little time to live and her family from the Phillipines has not been allowed to come and say their goodbyes to her. But the government backed down and is now allowing those type of visits after much outcry and criticism.

Apparently there have been no restrictions on flying across the US border for whatever reason, but you must quarantine upon coming back into Canada. But driving across the border is not allowed, I don't know where this happenned but just the last few days a Canadian couple wanted to drive through the states to their second home in Mexico but was denied entry into the USA, and turned around back to Canada and they were told they will need to Quarantine for 2 weeks now and they are saying they didn't even get into the states. lol.

As many surmised would occur, my late December flight booking on a 737MAX has been replaced with an A320.

Apparently its quite easy to cross the boarder. Sat on the plane with a couple coming back from Seattle who went down to see their daughter and new grand child. I have let AC know my displeasure.

Pissed me off. Now I have to watch myself closely for the next 14 day.

Canadians can still fly to the US with almost no restrictions and have been able to the entire time. I have a friend who went to Vegas for 2 weeks back in the summer.

Also this is exactly why the 14 day quarantine is almost useless. It doesn't account for the connecters who will mingle with the general public anyways in the waiting area and sit on a plane with domestic travelers who aren't required to self-isolate.

Yup pissed me off. Should be the same air or ground. Have enough issues because I have to fly, But I am checked at least 3-6 times each trip.

At the land crossing it basically amounts to business travelers who are involved in supply chain, energy, pharma, transportation, banking, telco, etc. can cross as required.

What has been stopped at the land crossing but not by air is travel for non-business related reasons.

I think this is all reasonable. We still need to ensure people can find food and toilet paper in the stores, have electricity, the internet works and can bank. I have found most companies at the start of COVID adjusted travel approval policies to avoid travel unless absolutely needed and requiring approval at the very highest level in the organization. They are not backing off that anytime soon.

With cases spiking again across the country, I realize that timing of making any changes to the 14 day return-to-Canada quarantine would send potentially be dangerous to those who interpret it poorly and out of context that things are being relaxed.

However, since travel is the business employer in the world, and if we were to use science and data to drive policy decisions, Air Canada (and WestJet)'s lobbying to have the government adjust current policy and fortify it with testing and a shortened quarantine could help a lot of the economy start moving forward again. Even if we keep our borders closed to non-resident arrivals, allowing Canadians to travel will certainly help the travel industry

For example, upon return to Canada (either at the overseas airport pre-departure or upon arrival on Canadian soil), have a rapid test facilitated (at the airline or traveller's expense). Shorten quarantine to maybe 3, 5, or if needed, as long as 7 days, and followed up with a second Covid test 24 hours prior to that shortened quarantine period.

Contrary to what might be a logical thought process, we know that being on an aircraft itself has not been a vehicle for transmission of the disease.

We need to continue to use the data and science to learn how to manage this disease and live with it instead of reverting again to simply locking down. The blanket measures only temporarily slow the spread, and devastate the economy and sacrifice people's individual financial stability.

What the Feds need to wake up on is that Germany has been doing exactly what you're talking about all summer at its airports. Rapid-test on arrival. The Feds are aware of that but have instead been responding to the issue not on the basis of facts but instead on the basis of polls.

yes i agree. the media has gotten so many canadians scared with covidphobia that rather then trying to figure out a way forward the government is just content with doing nothing and trying to put out this image about being our savior. maybe todays westjet pullout in atlantic canada (an area with liberal seats in parliament) will be the first signal that status quo won't work long term.

I have major desire to travel, but won't do it yet, not worth the risk. So I'll just have to fantasize about the old days

Don’t hold your breath. A lot will have to happen between now and then.

I thought AC was flying a 777 full of cargo between Vancouver and Australia almost daily.

I know they had left the business cabin seats on the aircraft. I would assume in a cargo configuration they can't sell those seats. However I don't know if that is the case or not. If it can be sold, that would end up being a popular route especially if discounted.

I'm surprised they have PDX flights. I can't see that route being too busy even pre-pandemic.

Which airport does YVR use for connecting flights for eastern/south central US flights? Apart from SEA it's usually Dallas? Certain seasons PHX or DEN?

AC7219 YVR-SYD (all cargo). 3x weekly. 1 of the 3 weekly flights originates in YYZ.

The return flight operates SYD-AKL-YVR. 1 of the 3 weekly flights continues onto YYZ.
