King Kar and Plaza

These two sites are side by side across from the MF Schurman site. The plaza will start soon but
the King Kar site takes precedence as there is a timeline for completion early next year.

Enman Cres. and University Ave Intersection

Question? Does anyone know what is going on here? Why the island? Is there going to be a left hand turn here? If there is a left hand turn here why wouldn't they have put in a left hand turn lane where this island is. My tip-off is the traffic light which has a left signal (not active yet). I'm at a loss why they wouldn't have put in a left turn lane if there is going to be one. Using the present lane will just tie up traffic!! ???

Where is this road going that’s connecting to University? You can roughly see on google maps where it’s being built but I still don’t understand what’s going on.

The road connects to the UPEI Alumni building which connects to the UPEI campus and comes out there between the soccer and track and field, across from the CARI road.
I hope there isn't going to be a left turn there and it will be at the main light further up University Ave.

In Summerside, crews are getting ready for the demolition of the former Regent building. I believe they are also going to be demolishing several other buildings, but unsure of those will take place today as well.
The picture is from the facebook of deputy mayor Bruce McDougall.

I found this UPEI master plan this afternoon detailing the expansions of the campus they plan to make.

Provincial Credit Union is getting set for a big expansion.

The credit union plans to double the size of its head office on University Avenue in Charlottetown.

The credit union had hoped to begin the work this year but challenges related to COVID-19 means the work will be delayed until 2021.

"We had hoped to begin in July," says Bernard Gillis is the CEO of Provincial Credit Union.

"We had made the decision to delay all renovations until spring of next year."

Gillis said the biggest issue was a delay in obtaining some materials.

"We plan to ensure that anyone that is going to have interactions with individuals, everything will be on the main level. We currently don't have an elevator in our existing building and we will not have one in our new building," he said.

The planned addition to the Provincial Credit Union will include a call centre on the second floor. (Submitted by Provincial Credit Union)
Right now Gillis doesn't know what the final cost of the project will be at this point.

He said a call centre will be on the second floor of the new addition and it will allow the business to expand the hours to help clients with their accounts.

That means some new jobs for Islanders — but Gillis doesn't know how many yet.

Gillis said things such as immigration and awareness of financial products have helped the business advance.

"Business has been very good over the past two to three years," he said.

Provincial Credit Union has 15,000 members with branches in Charlottetown, Stratford, North Rustico and Montague.

The 1st floor parking structure has been built but nothing else has happened in the last 4 months. All signage has been taken away, equipment has been removed and now weeds are growing.
The storage container that was still on this lot has also been removed. Did the developer or customer not pay their bills? It looks like this project has become abandoned.

Mayor wants to address vacant buildings in Charlottetown

CBC November 03, 2019

This is an old article from 2019. The only building that was
removed was the old Peter Pan. Not much movement on the others. So much for city hall clout. However, they do have lots of push against the residences who properties are a little untidy.
Time to free up these properties for development. Preferably for apartments. New residences will be the best solution for a troubled downtown.

The city does a TERRIBLE job of enforcing its bylaws. There are few buildings that were gutted by fire, but have sat boarded up for years. One is on University Avenue on prime land. Another is actually still be occupied, with windows boarded up. It’s so unsafe for many reasons, let alone how bad it brings down the neighbourhood. It’s insane.

IRAC overturns Charlottetown council's decision to approve apartment project

The Guardian

Charlottetown council’s decision to allow an 18-unit apartment building at 38 Palmers Lane has been overturned on appeal.

The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC) recently released a decision saying council’s reasoning that there was an ongoing housing crisis was not reason enough to give the project the green light.

If this isn't a good enough reason, then what is! Do they think these buildings are being built for a beautification contest! This will impact every new development in the city, even single family homes, if one wants to contest it!
All proposed projects are now in jeopardy, thanks to the NIMBY's and the crew at IRAC!!
