That is not a bioswale- they just haven't put any landscaping there yet. There is no way for water to enter, and it isn't deep enough. In looking at the utility pole, the electric service has already been moved off, so it is just telephone and maybe cable at this point. The fact they have the sidewalk abruptly ending tells me they anticipate that pole being removed, and they are waiting on AT&T to get in there and bury their lines. AT&T always waits until the power has been removed, and from my observation, they always take way longer to remove the wires. I think you will see that pole gone once the building opens....

It was reported that the Interlock would fund the complete street plan for Howell Mill around the project. I don't know where the bioswale talk is coming from.

“So we are removing all the power poles,” Garrison said. “We are integrating these large sidewalks. We’re creating these pedestrian crossings. We are timing the signals.”

Garrison added, “Renew Atlanta has really set the stage for a complete streets project that is going to transform Howell Mill from colliers down to Marietta and we are trying to fit in to that and also create there vision here on the corner.”

Say goodbye to those big old power lines. Our team is burying the existing power lines to improve the line of sight in the corridor.

I used my eyes and compared the long rectangular gap with bioswales implemented elsewhere. I’d rather see functional bioswales and protection from the street instead of something split in the sidewalk, similar to the following:

As I’m not sure anyone feels comfortable on the small sliver of sidewalk near a busy street, I’d rather push the greenery and additional function to capture stormwater runoff adjacent the street

Did you not notice the fire hydrant that would sit squarely in center of the new sidewalk? I assume the gap is because of utility work that still had to be done at the time of the photo. The Howell Mill complete street plan to my knowledge, does not include bioswales.

Do you have a site plan or engineering drawings of either? Without either, speculation on what it is and constructive criticism of what it could be is generally what makes a city better.

Echo Street West’s First Known Tenant, Guardian Works, Unveiled

Quote:
Novare Events is bringing Guardian Works to Echo Street West, the first-known tenant for the now-under-construction mixed-use development, according to the company’s website. Comprising a 6,000-square-foot indoor reception space, an almost 5,000-square-foot covered patio area, with an additional 23,000-square-foot green space, the Guardian Works venue can comfortably accommodate up to 1,500 guests and can be configured for virtually any event.

With site restoration underway, Guardian Works is scheduled for completion in the Spring of 2021, along with a few other community activations, like an artist and makers colony, more outdoor gathering areas, and an open-air bar and dining experience just off the BeltLine.

This project seems to be MOVING. Exciting times for the Bankhead/English Avenue if you have been bullish on this area.

Investment firm Brookfield partners on 300-unit townhome development near Bellwood Quarry

Quote:
Brookfield Holdings LLC bought into the 24-acre project, which is being built at 1615 Johnson Road, for $17.5 million, according to Fulton County property deeds.

Brookfield will partner with homebuilder Ashton Woods on the new development known as ParkVue. It will include 293 townhomes.

When the project was presented to the city last year, the developer estimated units could cost up to $600,000, but Ashton Woods' Mike Busher said pricing has not been established yet.
Good to see this moving forward after Brock tried to stop them.

Unfortunately this will likely be another development in subdivision form.

I don't think you can gate a subdivision inside city limits. I was told this by one of Brocks builders and I'm pretty sure Brock would of have done that with a few of his.
