No reason that I can think of. Supposedly there is construction going on, but they could've easily made it accessible.
Huge missed opportunity on their part. A great way to showcase and advertise their development to people casually walking by. Nobody would walk up from Booth that is a mess right now.
They could've also sponsored SJAM ski trail to extend it to Chaudiere Falls lookout.

Is just me or do they show the buildings below with a parking lot in between them instead of an atrium? I assume that's a mistake.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that's an oversight, though I imagine that parking lot, and Albert Island, will likely be the last area to be developed on the Ottawa side.

The north end of that bridge is going to be a park that is currently under construction and planned to open in spring 2021, according to the NCC website.

When I went by the new pedestrian crossing last week, I found it odd to see stairs and wondered how well maintained they would be in the winter. The more I think about it, the more I wonder how this was even approved. Will there be an adjacent sidewalk for those who cannot navigate stairs? If so, what is the purpose of this crossing? Thank you.

There will be a sidewalk next to it. As far as I understand the bridge is there to cover the pipes under it and recreate industrial feel of the place.

The "Pipe Bridge" was built because it was simpler/easier/more viable than adding the sewage lines to the bridge over Buchanan & Hydro channels.

That "pipe" bridge does seem odd. I understand the purpose of it and I understand that they would not have had space for a ramp or "gentler" stairs, but for someone who doesn't know, no doubt the majority of people out there, they might wonder what the thought was behind it.

I'm sure you're right. As soon as the bridge is open, Chaudiere Island is going to be a magnet for cyclists and pedestrians. Not a good idea now: there are just too many trucks coming and going during the day.

Can someone explain the Atrium/Parking lot a bit better?

I can understand that the old renderings show a glass atrium, when in the short/medium term it'll just be a paved area with christmas lights dangling across the buildings, I'm fine with this type of outdoor space.

However, there's a building shown at the west end of the 'parking lot' totally blocking the space into a 3 sided canyon. Will there be pedestrian access through the canyon and westward to the park? And also, is that a parking garage entrance at the western tip of that building? Or is it commercial space?

Edit: It's the triangular red-brick building on the bottom right.

There is no reason why they can't open the bridge itself without connecting it to Zibi. Just open the gate and leave the fence at the end.
It's a decent public space with nice sunset views, benches and functioning street lamps.

From what I remember, cars won't be allowed that deep into the development. That's definitely not a parking garage entrance behind the wedge building a the back of Albert Island.

So far, nearly all of the buildings built or proposed feature an indoor corridor to connect public open spaces, so I'm pretty confident that this building will have the same to link the pedestrian bridge at the west end of the site with the interior courtyard.
