Considering the makeup of our current legislature, I'd say they can be pretty important.

A bunch of BC Lib supporters might have parked their vote with a market leaning Green party too. We need a solid 3rd choice here.

I agree.

I would vote for a center left party with some fresh ideas. This could be the Greens.

The Greens broke through the barrier, they are a household name thanks for the governing agreement, they lost the "fringe" status these last few years. Largely thanks to the sensibility of Andrew Weaver.

Going hard left now is probably not a winning strategy to grow the party.

I doubt having a third party that's just there as a protest vote is going to be sustainable. If anything that was their peak.

That would be a shame.

2 party system doesn't work - ask the Americans.

I mean the same could be said about anything that makes up the political or economic or social systems in the US. I mean RIP proportional voting.

I also wonder how left B.C. NDP is. Done wrong, this is the textbook definition of votesplit (unless B.C. Liberals are extremely weak).

The Dippers have approved Site C, Kitimat, Trans-Canada expansion and intensive logging (all of which the Greens are against), so one could argue that the "centre left pro-business" niche is already occupied and unlikely to be contested.

Former city councillor George Affleck will be running for the BC Libs against the NDP's George Heyman in Vancouver-Fairvew, thus proving the truism of the NPA being the BC Lib farm team.

I'm expecting the vote to be around 43% BC Liberal to 41% NDP, expecting the BC Libs to win a majority with around 45-50 seats depending on how good their vote efficiency is.

If the ndp wins 43% to the BC Libs at 41%, I still expect a BC Liberal win anyway due to vote efficiency, the NDP Caps out at a ceiling of around 47 seats in a best case scenario.

seat total predictions?
46 Liberal, 2 green, 39 BC NDP.

I think the Enviro vote is significant. We will see, assuming the NDP win with a majority, how Clean and Green their plan is. If they co-opt a lot of Green policies, that party may fall by the wayside.

Then again, it would be "mission accomplished" for that movement.

Interesting take.

I think the NDP has really shifted public sentiment around itself.

Too many old folks remembered the 90's debacle.

The last few years proved this isn't the 90's NDP.

Couple that with Liberals being MIA, or only popping up for another controversy here and there from the Clark years, and I really hope the BC voter is smart enough to reward the NDP.

I really badly hope you're right, but I'm not expecting this election to go that way. I really think an early election call has pissed away any good will Horgan had indeed gained.

It would be very disappointing if BC couldn't see the relative success the NDP has achieved in a short period of time, and instead assigned more weight to an early election call.

But, don't put it past the electorate to make ridiculous decisions.

Next BC NDP Slogan: Voting for the Liberals and Green will give you COVID.

When you don't like the results just call the people stupid for voting.

1) ICBC - They are keeping this dumpster fire alive and it is irritating to know I have to deal with this shit institution and know there are "adjusters" making more than most of the general public while doing little to no work. We are handcuffed to using this useless insurer when most other provinces and states can renew policies in under 10 minutes at home.

2) Site C/Enbridge/Kinder Morgan - How much did virtue signaling cost us?

3) Cancelling the George Massey Bridge. This was planned out and construction was commencing. We threw it away because they deemed it not necessary. The tunnel is in dire need of replacement and will need to be replaced or people will die in the event of a moderate earthquake.

4) The DTES worsened under their tenure and they continue to throw money at drug addicts to commit crimes and takeover Vancouver. It is such a hostile environment that I am avoiding the Vancouver area.

5) Calling an election in the middle of a pandemic when they should be cooperating with all sides. Shows where the priority is. They do not give a rats ass about the general public but want power.

6) The stupid increase in corporate taxes saw many companies move operations out of BC or close down completely. Medium sized businesses never stood a chance as a result of COVID19. Just too many stupid new taxes including the carbon drinks tax.

Andrew Wilkinson best move would be to push the privation of BC Auto Insurance and use the sell-off of the public insurers assets to fund stimulus programs for businesses to withstand COVID19. We know this province is screwed to the bone and we are likely going to see massive job losses once this is all set and done. Low taxes. Major austerity for public sector employees. Lots of public sector work can be done for minimum wage and should frankly be automated.

Honestly. What have the NDP done in 3 years? How has this province become more affordable and better?

B.C. NDP completed 79% of its campaign promises in 1st term (includes promise tracker)
Quote:
The B.C. NDP can head into this election campaign able to claim they've followed through on most of the promises they made during the last campaign.

Nearly 100 of them, in fact.

An analysis of all 122 promises in the party's 2017 election platform shows that 96 of them have been completed or are clearly on their way to completion.

Another 14 promises have a mixed record — or the jury is still out on whether the government will complete them — while no progress has been made on 12.

Great points, and this coming from a disgruntled NDP voter as well. Let's be clear: Horgan has not been a bad premier, so it is not about him as a person or prior policies in my opinion. Eby has done a great job targeting money laundering and ICBC. But by calling an election early during a pandemic of all times, now it's no longer about the policies. It's all about him and the party - no longer the policies. It's putting people's health at risk by mailing ballots with other people in the public domain at Canada Post, so he can attain stewardship over BC and virtue signal about how he steered us away with Dr. Henry from all obstacles. This is Donald Trump like behaviour in my opinion, despite the nice platitudes and Dr. Henry's "be kind" speeches in his pocket.

We have to be real about this. It's a power grab during the pandemic, and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth because people would have voted on his policies and response to the pandemic in 2021 (not now), before he inserted his ego and testament.

Tolko closed down in large part due to BC not bailing them out and the corporate tax increase + health tax. Source, my friend lost their job there.

That said, I’m curious how many conscientious (as opposed to policy-based) voters there will be on Oct 24.
Ps: The outcome will determine whether I will return to the B.C. Highway Thread.

I also wonder how this will affect Federal NDP’s polling in B.C. Will it be obliterated if JT for real calls one at the federal level too?
