Northgate always felt odd. It had a sprinkling of chains, even some national ones, but then it had stores similar to what Northgate had before the mall was recently demoed, these weird almost mom and pop style stores selling random things.

^ Good description. Yeah, it could never break through into the top tier in the 80s. It was just too close to Garden City IMO.

Sounds like a new Costco is being built north of Windsor plywood on Main st.

Well actually it’s behind Windsor so it’s more West. The Meadowlands will be getting Costco as an anchor.

Greater Winnipeg is getting a power centre, anchored by a Costco, named the Meadowlands, just like there is in Ancaster (suburban Hamilton)?

Don’t know how they tie traffic volume into that area, another set of lights on the perimeter? Seems like a lot of infrastructure work will be required.

The lights at Windsor Plywood is the Main entrance and exit point. No access to the Perimeter. They are starting on a large residential development to the west of the Costco site, sewer and water u/c right now, that will also have entry and exit points onto McPhillips.

It's a bit like Southwood at Pembina and Bishop Grandin, an indoor mall that opened around the time the St. Vital Centre did. It struggled for a decade or so and then turned into big boxes.

No way that access point and Main St. At that location could even remotely handle the volume of traffic a Costco generates without adding lanes to Main St. (Which already should have been done years ago)

The volume of traffic at peak times with those commuting back and forth already bottlenecks from Red River Boulevard to the Perimeter!

So the Costco site is in the strip of West St. Paul inside the Perimeter?

One would think the City of Winnipeg would start asking the Province to allow it to annex lands inside the Perimeter before too much more gets developed.

The Costco placement is NW of the traffic circle, along the rail line in the Colliers Brochure (Page 3).

So it sounds like this Costco is basically a done deal, then? Do we know when construction will begin?

Is the one on the western edge of town still in the works? I can't remember where the discussion left off on that one.

Winnipeg will be fairly well covered by Costcos at that point with 5 locations, one of which will supposedly become a business centre. It's actually a bit surprising to me that they don't have more locations considering how busy their stores are... I have a membership but I only go maybe every 6 weeks or so mainly because of the inconvenience of it all. Whenever I go, the stores look like they're bursting at the seams with shoppers.

That will be great to hopefully lighten the load on the Regent location. For people coming from north/northeast of the City.

I haven't really paid attention. But has work on the residential development started west of the track/east of McPhillips?

If they convert the St.James one into a "business" centre (whatever that means) - we may cancel our membership. The remaining full service locations will be too far out of the way for us living near the centre of the City. Kinda sucks - but sounds like this expansion will result in Costco becoming full on suburban in Winnipeg.
