I don't know if this is due to COVID or to management incompetence, but ECC Mall is dying a slow death as more stores are shuttered. Urban is the latest casualty.

I think a lot of the stores were on the edge Covid just pushed them over. The outlook for returning to near normal is a long way away. So it is better to pull out and use the resources in better locations. I noticed MEC has not opened their Downtown location yet either.

Need some new plans for City Center Mall indeed. The whole main floor of the West end is cell phone providers. There is nothing there that looks inviting to any casual walker-by.

Covid is going to kill many of the retailers in the mall, which is the case for most enclosed shopping malls. Last I've heard they are moving faster with their plans to reposition the mall due to these circumstances.

It feels like the entire Eaton Centre portion needs to go and be reimagined.

it also doesn't help that downtown has become one big homeless shelter and any attempts to offer make the area safe for people is seen by the overly progressive (aggressive) left as not being "inclusive". the irony is by not addressing safety and social disorder, the 'hipsters' who yearn for a thriving core will simply drive business/ retail/ people away to the suburbs.

I'd like to see them demolish CC West and redevelop the block, while consolidating all remaining retail in CC East.

Well, that's what I am hearing from my sources. I believe they've selected Gensler and Kasian as the project architects.

Edmonton is not isolated to the declining "brick and mortar" outfits. USA is experiencing mirror results which is forcing many to be on the fringes of bankruptcy with more to come. They just had their quarterly report where "GDP" declined by 32.9%. That is "depression" numbers. We can blame COVID for the results, but a 25 trillion debt- that doesnt include personal or corporate debts- prior to COVD has already strangled them. With online shopping as the trend and COVID, there is no doubt some retailers will file for bankruptcy.

As in they want a location with more/easier parking. Well, that's their choice as a business. If the majority of their customers find it difficult to park to get to their store then it's in their best interest to try to accommodate that.

They were on the news a couple of weeks ago complaining about their landlord who didn’t want to take advantage of the government’s rent reduction program to help the out. They said at the time they would be looking for another location.

There is a ton of parking in the immediate area.

I bet you they move to 124 Street, as that seems to be the 'happening' place for new urban businesses/development as of late.

I agree with you on the locations ... but with MEC in the Brewery District that is tough competition eating into what market there may be for the lines that Kunitz carry. That said this would be the best location. 170 is a far second place.
