^ big time... considering that is the only point of entry (from the top) into one of downtown's best attractions. Having that little sidewalk from before, directly adjacent to oncoming traffic -almost blindly as they turn up the hill - made it even more unfriendly. I've walked that many, many times as I live in MacDonald Estates; excited they are finally widening and creating somewhat of a barrier between the walking path and the road. That little bit makes a huge difference.

Now we just need connectivity from where the photo above is taken, to across the street on the left.

An elevated walkway between the funicular and McDougall Hill is sorely needed. I see plenty of people jaywalking across 100 St to catch an ETS bus.

That is in the plans I believe, as part of the Downtown Public Places Plan.

That's correct. Macdonald Drive will be rebuilt and have a Brewster's lookout like thing there eventually.

Very interesting! Having the gondola on the west side of this pedway will be money in the bank. I will likely be retired by the time this comes to fruition though.

Why is there no north-south Corridor north of downtown between 104 Street and 121st...

109 seems like it would be too busy to add bike lanes… Possibly 116? But that’s close-ish to 121…

You gotta think there must be some kind of plan to connect Blatchford and downtown…

Also, Westrich is a nightmare at the moment on 105 Avenue. There may also be some kind of city utilities work going on? But those Westrich fuckers are constantly blocking pedestrian sidewalks between 105 Avenue and Oliver Square Doing landscaping... are these private walkways between 105 Avenue and Oliver Square? Because if they are public, it is completely unacceptable what they have been doing for weeks now...

The connection is the LRT corridor with multi-use from MacEwan to Blatch

Except that majority of the residential is on the west side of the Blatchford site...

And that still leaves 17 blocks between the two north-south routes? population density is only going to increase in this area, and to encourage cycling there should be safe separate bike lanes somewhere between 104 and 121. The Lrt Corredor will be great if your Destiination is downtown proper… But pretty useless if you’re heading to Oliver or the southside via high-level bridge.

Looking at the map again, it seems that 110th St. would be perfect. It would tie in rail town Park to airways park. Or even better, 110th street AND 116th St.… But now I’m just being greedy...

The just rebuilt section of 127st from 111 ave to 118 ave does not have the cycle lane, at least not the separated lane like further south.

Unfortunately, that stretch was never planned to have a separated bike lane, so not surprising. Would've definitely been nice to have one there, but I guess we have to settle for the MUP along the former rail corridor to the east.

The 'What We Decided' document for Inglewood neighbourhood renewal also states that a separated bike lane will continue north on 127 Street to 118 Avenue: https://www.edmonton.ca/transportation/BGN_Inglewood_WWD.pdf.

Great. More and safer north-south connections across Yellowhead Trail please.

My commute in from St Albert is pretty good currently, using a mix of designated routes. I only wished the LRT north to Campbell transit was on the build list. Having a SUP along that route would greatly help the bike commuting into downtown. I estimate the route would save me about 10 minutes. Current time is between 45 and 50 min. mostly stopping at lights. Yellowhead and 127st is the hardest crossing. There is about 3 or 4 blocks there that are a bit harder to commute but once you get on the old rail right of way is quite fast.

The truly hardest part of my ride is in St Albert. Very few designated path ways.

As for education , we need to educate the riders as well as drivers. Interestingly I used to teach the Police Mountain Bike course in Calgary and a few times in Edmonton. I was shocked by the lack of knowledge of basic cycling rules and etiquette.

I had a quick glance at this plan and so far like what I saw. (I do know some people that were involved with it). Need to look at it more indepth over the holidays.

This is why we need a 1 meter law. And another reason to ride with cameras on the bike.

I hate riding on major roads here unless there's a dedicated bike lane at minimum. 20 years ago I didn't mind, but there's more traffic now, more distracted drivers, and people are just in a mad rush to get anywhere.

Bicycles: all the disadvantages not being seen like motorcycles, plus the added fact there's no horsepower to get yourself out of trouble and no one riding a bike wears enough protective gear for obvious reasons.

Ever try leaving Millwoods by bicycle? There is only one multiuse path to go north south on for all of millwoods and that is 91st. every other way ends at about the whitemud. No other way to go north unless you take the road. I'm not a big fan of riding on commuter roads like 50th street, or industrial roads like 34/17 with no shoulders, no anything. Terrible.

^I wonder if the new Mill woods LRT comes with adjacent multiuse trail. Would be good, even just to get cyclists up to Wagner and they could take Mill Creek the rest of the way to the city centre.

Ideally, would be really nice if somehow they could link a multiuse trail between the Whitemud and Argyll road along Mill Creek.
Might require a lot of money and imagination though.

I don't think there is a multi-use path along the Valley Line SE anywhere along the alignment, which —, but that is likely due to a narrow ROW requirement for the 'urban lrt' format.
