I hate to say it, but those are highly overrated. The scale that I like the most here in the city are midscale/midrises that you would see mostly in East/West Villages, Harlem, Brooklyn, etc.

Pocket park would be great, but there's very limited space because they need to keep the southern part of the lot paved for access to Skyhouse for deliveries/garbage/etc.
Too bad they had to remove that beautiful giant tree in front of the house. The arborist classified it as dead/dying. It will allow for a better sidewalk if they remove the stump, but the number of magnificent trees like that in Midtown is dwindling.

The (unremarkable) building containing the 11th St pub and the Residence Inn by Marriott above just a block away still has the best street interaction on West Peachtree St compared with all of the new towers because it's human-scaled and welcoming.

Well, that "unremarkable" building is remarkable for Atlanta. It looks like a building that you would see in Boston.

I used to demolish those small buildings and put in pocket parks all the time in the Sim City series.

I've always loved that building, it was built as a women's only apartment house for nursing students. The original
Vortex location was where the pub is now.

Yeah from that shot it looks like the office tower will be considerably taller than Icon.

Skimping on Design Follow-Through

I don’t see any evidence that they are installing the “X” bracing on the northside of the building. That’s a little disappointing considering the implied caliber of this project.
I expected that they would at least follow through with the same design theme on both sides of the same building.
Not including this signature feature on both sides of the building is blow to the authenticity of the design.
This only solidifies what was thought before - that the bracing is most definitely “for show” and apparently only for those viewing the building from the south.

Actually, I just looked at a scale model of the building, and it appears that the same "X" bracing is supposed to be installed on the North side as well, but the construction photos show no sign of their installation - even at this late stage.

I don’t recall the rendering on their website ever having the north side with the X bracing, though I do wish it would be installed on both sides. And as you mentioned yes I believe initial drawings and the model did have it on the north side as well.

I am not currently thrilled with this building. I know it has not topped out, but I believe it will have minimal impact while driving in from the north...Plus the X bracing should have at least been on the west side of the tower...

Here is the other side of the building with the "X" bracing.

Why would you cut this architectural feature when you already have secure funding and a tenant - maybe that's why - they already have a major tenant.

People here love to complain about unfinished buildings....

How the hell are they gonna install the bracing while there is a crane attached to that side of the building? Take two seconds to think before popping off....

Did you really think you'd be able to see it that well with OAC and Icon right there??

Y'all didn't expect this to NOT be value engineered, did you? You can see the hardware where the bracing is attached on the southside of the building. There is no such hardware on the north face of the building.

I think my original inclination may have been correct.

I feel they have eliminated the “X” bracing elements from the North side of the building.

Exhibit 1:
You can reference the current animated rendering on the 1105 West Peachtree web site http://1105westpeachtree.com/ - There is NO “X” bracing shown on the Northern side of the building.

Exhibit 2:
You may also want to review the construction images of the north side of the office tower where you will find NO underlying support system pre-installed for the brackets that hold the “X” bracing members in place.
However, when viewing the Southern face of the building, you will notice at each intersecting point of the “X” brace, there are a much wider bands installed as part of the curtain-wall construction. These wider separating bands do not appear on the finished curtain-walls of the Northern side.
