Honestly speaking I wouldn't be surprised if this was the
only case of violence in the Strathcona favela that makes the mainstream media news. In fact media coverage of the introduction of this favela into a neighbourhood full of working families will be a circus to say the least starring a mental gymnastics performance by apologists.
The Vancouver media has a tendency to put out a story critical of the city's actions in order to virtue signal to Canada (and the World) that they need to do better; and then magically the issue gets ignored even though there are further developments from those deeper issues. A specific example was recently with English Bay being full of beach-goers during the pandemic. There was barely any coverage in the mainstream media yet there is a plethora of examples of people not social distancing in other beaches like Second Beach or Kits Beach. Not that I'm trying to ruin anyone's enjoyment of the awesome summer weather but the media coverage on the lack of social distancing in Vancouver from Canada and local mainstream media outlets undermines the supposed "severity" of the pandemic. And yet the government is praising us for our efforts

?
Something's rotten in the state of Denmark...
It wouldn't surprise me at all if by next week there isn't anymore coverage in the mainstream media about the Strathcona favela; and that the mainstream media focuses on something else sensational to distract from the issue.
- We don't see articles on the mental effects that a 10 year old has to go through when they don't feel safe in their own neighbourhoods.
- We don't see articles on the detrimental effects that calling emergency services has on a child (or ANYONE) for someone who has overdosed.
- We don't see mainstream media coverage on families explaining how they have to change their lifestyles to ensure their own safety and the security of their property.
