Is there much push back in Vancouver about density spilling outside downtown? It's a huge issue here, but Calgary is just starting to test the limits of proper urban development outside the Core / Beltline. Fortuantely for us, the Nimby's rarely win.

56 storey towers aren't cost efficient. It's even worst in point tower forms.

Something like Battery Park City is what Vancouver is missing. I don't like the scale or look. I think typical point towers intermixed with density gobbling mid rises would be a huge upgrade on appearances

Depends on the neighbourhood. Density is being added at a decent clip in and around the Olympic Village up to Main and Kingsway, along Broadway, and the entire stretch of Cambie St. down to Marine Drive.

Outside of those areas, it's been a challenge. For instance, Broadway and Commercial station, the second most important transit hub in the entire region, still struggles to get anything significant built. The nimbys are gnarly in that neighbourhood. It's beyond frustrating to have billions of dollars of transit infrastructure, and the worst real estate crisis the city has ever faced, and we still can't get hundreds of units of housing constructed in an area that was built for it.

There's already a skytrain to Port Moody, and why would you want to get rid of the WCE? That train is a godsend to those that live around it.

It's more about building skytrain to every point along the way to Port Moody, instead of a comparatively expensive Hastings subway. And the WCE wouldn't so much cease to exist as terminate in Port Moody, as part of a regional rail system running through Abbotsford and Langley, around Surrey, and into Pacific Central. I'll draw a map later.

I miss the Sheraton Landmark tower in Vancouver - it always helped me get my bearings when looking at a Vancouver skyline photo.

Downtown Dartmouth. It has gotten some small infill buildings but hasn't changed that much in recent years. But it has a handful of 30 storey or so buildings proposed so there could be big changes soon. The current tallest in Dartmouth is an 18 storey office building from 1975. It also has a highrise apartment building designed by Arthur Erickson which is a bit of a landmark.

Dartmouth has an old industrial area built along a canal which could be great if it's redeveloped thoughtfully. Part of the canal was culverted after flooding back in the 60's or 70's but it is has since been "daylighted".

/\ There was a great sunset tonight in Victoria, so I assume Vancouver as well - hope to see some more sunset skyline shots coming up!

Here's a few from a couple days ago from Gary Hoyer. The massive crane Dynamic Beast was passing under the bridge to take away the equally massive coal sorter that was constructed on the other side of the bridge.

Here's a shot of Montreal from yesterday's thunderstorm. It was taken by Martin Reisch and shared by mayor Valérie Plante on Twitter.

Another one: a drone shot towards the north from above the Farine Five Roses sign.

Wow, beautiful... bit apocalyptic.

Waterfront: new render of One Yonge starring... SkyTower.

More pics: Pinnacle

Last edited by Maldive; Aug 5, 2020 at 12:40 PM. Reason: it ain't StarTower... it's SkyTower, like it says on the render (duh)
