Also a fan of the new one. The old one offered nothing new. Podium looked a lot like Mercury Court of the Claridge Shoppers Drug Mart. First one being a (mostly) historic building, second one a refreshing small scale retail development (wow, Claridge gets 🞵🞵🞵🞵 right sometimes!). The podium initially proposed for this building was just replicating what had already been done. The tower portion was pretty horrendous.
New one is a nice modern addition. I like the contrast between the red brick and black cladding. It doesn't look as massive/bulky as the previous proposal.
I prefer the new one as well. The old one looked like an 90's AutoCad render from a high school student... podium and "tower" didn't match at all and looked very awkward. It would have looked dated the moment it would have gone up.
I actually like this right now. Obviously the colours in the renderings are more vibrant than they would be in real life, but I think this would be good. I really like the use of red brick on the bottom portion.
