The rig pig I sat nearby on a plane recently must have been trying out as their mascot. As many f-bombs as other words spoken.

As a long time Eskimos fan, I hoped, until recently, that our beloved Double E would resist calls to change their name. Tradition, after all. However, much has changed since then. It’s quite clear, and increasingly so, that a change must be made. As someone once said, “When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do?”.
Well, I’ve changed my mind. The Double-E must remain as it’s been a time-honoured logo for decades. “Empire” has been suggested. I don’t like it. Presumptive, lacks charm or any local connection, and do we cheer “Go Emps!”? “Eagles” just sounds too generic, even American. Now here’s a beauty suggested last night by my wife: “Elks”. Elk Island National Park is just east of Edmonton and the animal is regal and powerful and, even best, makes for a perfect cheer: “Elks!!” — “Go Elks Go!”.
I think not. Frankly the EE logo will always read as "Eskimos" and the change required will mean name and the team could use a new logo and possibly new colours. Its an opportunity to create something new and forward thinking rather than living in the past.

Kind of like how K-days eventually morphed into a whole lot of banality before sinking in the quicksand?

Lots of talk on the Eskimo name change. I guess my question is do the people that want the name change actually go to the games because a lot of the pushback it seems is coming from the season ticket holders and diehards - people that actually pay to go to the games. Another comment. The name change is a mute point if the CFL is not able to play this year - the league has sufficient financial issues where they may actually fold. Hope it does not happen but the CFL is gate driven - no fans no cash
Now the new name... I originally suggested "Energies", but I want to recant that name and think we should just call ourselves "Eies" or "Ees". I kind of like the mystery around just the letter "E" now.
it's also pretty edgy in how it can be used for numerous promotions and marketing campaigns with a wide variety of themes:
cutting edge
leading edge
on the edge
straight edge
razor's edge
hard edge
taking the edge off
on edge
the edge of your seat
living on the edge
sharp edge
ragged edge
edge to edge

You forgot to consider the name's weaknesses:
blunt edge
dull edge
soft edge
weak edge etc...
You have to prepare for the eventual backlash and jokes against the brand.

it may have to be something more attractive to that age group.
Well, I suggested Snowflakes but got crickets in return.

Just saw the team logo for the Seattle NHL team the Kraken - kind of a cool name and the logo is great too. Can the Edmonton Football team Inc from Edmonton, Alberta rise to the occasion and rebrand to a higher level? We will see I guess.
