It just occurred to me that they could have built the middle section of the alley side with a flat facade and saved themselves the trouble,
as no one will see it anyways with the new tower next door.

And then at least some portions of the floorplates would be regular and straightforward to program!

Yeah, this tower design is meant for a site with prominence on all sides like a small block or in the middle of a plaza, not some corner lot to be boxed in by other towers.

In prominent sites, Vancouver loves the towers to be bland and seafoam so that they can blend with the sky and water. Interesting architecture means buildings that are either tiny, tucked into some non-descript lots or squeezed into spaces beside bridge ramps. We don't like nice structures to be seen here.

I'm glad they didn't sacrifice the back alley side and make it flat, it shows commitment to the design, and the building is better for it. I agree, it would be nice if it was taller and had more exposure on all sides, but I'm glad they kept with the vision and didn't make one side bland just because it won't be as seen. And it will still be see when walking down Robson, even with the new tower across the alley
