It's not? Is that because the City took it upon themselves to save it?

I didn't find a dedicated thread for Casino du Lac-Leamy but on the subject of casino, it looks like Lac-Leamy has invested quite a bit to spruce things up

I have not visited this casino much for the past 6, 7 years (used to be a regular in my university days but may stop by and check out the renos once everything is done. Would love to see some sports betting here but that probably won't happen until the single-game wagering bill is passed.

A casino in the city center might be a controversial issue, but no matter where exactly it is located, it would not dramatically influence on citizens life.

I mean, it's right that one is regulated by government, and all that casino/gambling staff is not operated illegally. It makes entertainment more clear and its visitors - more protected.

I see no problem in situation when well dressed people are going to spend a night a casino, cinema, restaurant, etc.

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, the idea of a downtown casino is now officially dead. The City rigged the process to benefit the Rideau Carleton Raceway and we will, at some point, have a Hard Rock Casino at the site, though no doubt this will be delayed due to Covid-19.

Sketchy process aside, it's not necessarily a bad thing. By having the downtown adjacent Lac Leamy Casino and the rural Hard Rock, they might not compete as much as they will have a different target audience. At the end of the day, the overall region might benefit more this way.

That said, it doesn't mean this was the best overall option. A casino district in Kanata to bolster the Sens might have been even more beneficial, so we'll never know.

I have never supported this in Kanata. We all know the transportation problems that have been created by having the arena so far from downtown. It also impacts the viability of the Sens. Creating a bigger entertainment hub so distant is not going to help improve Ottawa. At least, we know that rail transit will be a short distance from Rideau-Carleton within a few years. It will be decades before we can accomplish the same thing in Kanata.
