A big bird was in Moncton today to pick a very large amount of lobsters. So many palettes on the tarmac couldn't count them all. It came in from JFK New York. Took 2 hours to load the plane here in Moncton. According to flight schedule, heading to Anchorage Alaska, then I assume China.

Another sign of a baby step back to normal. I see on Facebook that Saint John Airport is reopening. They're starting with an SJ to Montreal flight, and a Toronto flight is coming soon.

Freddy's flights are starting up again as well. I think I heard Porter airlines is starting up again in July, and AC has added a few more flights and destinations (Montreal/Toronto). No word on Westjet that I noticed but it's probably soon.

I just checked the flight schedule out of YQM, and I see that they are back up to three daily flights out of Moncton (two to Toronto, one to Montreal).

As of July 1 Fredericton is scheduled to get 2 daily flights to toronto reinstated on a CRJ900, at 0600 and 1800.

2 daily flights to Montreal at 0644 and 1653 in addition to the once (sometimes 2) flights that had been going to YUL.

Also a Halifax flight looks to be returning at 1345.

Westjet still looks to be 3 times weekly going by their website.

All things are likely to change but has not yet.

Air Canada is cutting a bunch of routes indefinitely, along with service to several airports including Bathurst and Wabush. No more flights between NB/PEI and Halifax either.

Whew, both Moncton and Fredericton losing it's Ottawa flight, that'll hurt competitive pricing. Is Porter still taking that route?

Porter is pushing back till August 31. Fair as they mostly cater to business travel.

Air Canada in NL (internally) is being pretty much gutted.

Also very interesting to see the abandonment of AC service to Halifax from all of NB/PEI.

I wonder how long these "indefinite" suspensions will last???

As is I could never justify flying to Halifax as it took nearly the same amount of time it would take to drive, and I would be at the airport Sans vehicle.

So normally if I took a flight from Moncton to Deer Lake it would be a transfer in Halifax. Would that now be a direct flight or would I no longer be able to get to deer Lake ?

Good luck getting to Deer Lake. Have to drive to Halifax now to catch a flight there.

I think the biggest winner here will be Maritime Bus, especially since they already stop at Halifax Stanfield Airport (and at YFC & YQM).

When Porter comes back they will have the only NB flights to Ottawa, so I assume they will do maybe even better than they did previously.

PAL Airlines will happily take those flyers internally in Newfoundland. I don't think AC wants to be in that business anymore, not even by proxy of a regional airline.

I also suspect AC doesn't really care to route people through Halifax - it's Toronto/Montreal or bust. Porter can pick up the remainder going to Ottawa when it starts operations again.

AC might be trying to shake the federal government down for a subsidy on their regional routes, as speculated in the Canadian Airport Thread. If it doesn't work, they've not lost much. COVID gives them an avenue to get out of a business they don't really want to be in but have previously maintained for PR reasons.
