They could have just meant above the wing operations. They already had contracted out YVR and I think YEG’s below the wing operations.

Starting today, our total number of Transborder destinations doubles from 2 to 4 and further goes up to 5 on Sunday.

WestJet resumes flights to LAX & ATL this morning and LAS on Sunday.

KLM (& possibly United) will be back in just 2 weeks.

WestJet resumes service to LAS today. This is the first non-stop to Las Vegas from Canada since March.

Next week both United & KLM plan to resume services, along with AA ORD / Mainline DFW.

I'm not sure we should celebrate all these flights coming in from the USA right now, with the dramatic increase in COVID-19 cases in so many states. I hope all incoming passengers will follow the current quarantine and self-isolation requirements.

I would really like to see a plan based on a rational analysis of the risks and benefits of opening up travel. We are no longer in a situation where we are going to keep Alberta Covid free, so the question is: What is an acceptable rate of importation? We need a model like what is being established by the European Union, you allow travel from places where the infection rate is not significantly higher than what local authorities are willing to tolerate at home. This should be done on a state by state basis for travel from the US.

Most of the passengers on any US-CAN flights will be returning Canadians so it's not so much a matter of trying to screen Americans by state of origin but of whether we should allow people to travel to the US (and return).

Other nations (Australia for example) have banned their citizens and Permanent Residents from leaving the country. Canada hasn't done that as Canadians are free to go abroad and return at their leisure - with the "recommendation" to self-isolate for 14 days upon return. Yes, you are required to provide a plan for how you will self-isolate at the Canadian border but it is nowhere near the quarantine system implemented in places like Aus/NZ (all passengers are put on a bus and shipped to hotels for 14 days immediately after landing and clearing customs).

So really, the question is "Should Canadians be allowed to fly to America/Mexico and return?" COVID is not going anywhere south of the border and it's not feasible to stay forever cut off from the US & South so really its a matter of When not If. Is now too soon - only time will tell.

According to the Government of Canada website self isolation (an emergency order under the Quarantine Act) is mandatory for all travellers arriving in Canada. Failure to comply could result in up to 6 months in prison and/or a fine of $750,000. It is NOT a "recommendation"! (The recommendation is for Travellers departing Canada to avoid all non-essential travel).

WestJet in this week's schedule update slashed its LAS service from 8x weekly (from all its hubs) to just 2x weekly from YYC alone. In July, they will now only have 13x weekly non-domestic flights.

This means that American Airlines will once again be our largest international carrier with 14x weekly flights. (7x DFW / 7x ORD).

They must have heard about the quarantine being extended until the end of August (and ban on most foreign travellers extended to at least July 31)

It includes the resumption of daily flights to DEN & IAH. Delta & Alaska loaded prelim schedules for August. I expect more changes but this includes: 2x daily MSP / 1x daily SLC & AS 1x daily SEA.

KLM looks to go 3x weekly.

Air Canada & WestJet will probably load their schedules in the next 2 weeks. AC will probably further suspend all its non-domestic flights, and WS will add more back.

Edelweiss is technically still scheduled in August. But very doubtful it will happen.

Busier times ahead this week with many routes resuming. YYC is also partially re-opening parts of the international terminal too.

Today - WS YUL / YHZ & YOW
Tomorrow - UA ORD
Tuesday - AA ORD
Wednesday - AA Upguage DFW to mainline 738
Thursday - KL AMS

Anyone else notice that the only transborder (or international) route out of YYC with competition is ORD?

I worry that this is the beginning of a pattern that will ultimately lead to much higher airfares post Covid, as profit margins are used to replace volume. The government will turn a blind eye to the oligopoly out of fear for survival of the airlines.

Our first inbound international flight since April is en route! KL677 should arrive just after 5pm from AMS.

Today we will have 8 international arrivals. The highest number of out of Canada arrivals since March.

Additional notes:
AC loaded a revised August schedule and it *currently* includes 3x weekly YYC-FRA. However they have played this game before, so I'll believe it when I see it. They haven't updated the Transborder schedule yet so it still shows 2x daily SFO and 1x daily LAS but I suspect both will be removed.

Hearing rumours WS is resuming flights to Europe in August, but at this point it's just hearsay until the schedule is released within the next week.

Crews have been given preliminary pairings for August but nothing has been finalized yet.
