Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre demolition is ongoing. The mall will slowly be replaced by a new high density residential community, a stone's throw from one of O-Train Stage 2's hub stations (Lincoln Fields, where the two west branches split).

This would be a perfect example of the kind of re-use I'd like to see more of.

It's a prime piece of land near a major transit node. It's in a desirable location of the city.

Why not use it for something better than yet another Dollarama?

I wish this would happen more often. Instead of these derelict malls and abandoned stores in otherwise desirable areas.

This is happening at three malls in Ottawa, all owned by RioCan. Lincoln Fields is the only one served by rapid transit. The other, Elmvale and Westgate, are on main drags with relatively decent bus service.

A strip mall near Gloucester Centre (Blair Station immediate area) was demolished. One rental tower was completed last year and another is going up fast. Many others are in the works.

That's fantastic.

I'm glad to see these developments. I lived in Ottawa some time ago and always thought it had a lot of potential for more urbanity.

One can only hope. My original 'mall' from when I first moved to Canada, Agincourt Mall is scheduled to be imploded soon for some sort of lifestyle/mixed use centre.

Where or where will the local scrotes go to cause trouble.

I do miss him though. No one dedicated their life to transit like Mike. He lived and breathed better transit for the people

Agreed. I miss him too. He was a character, and I admired his (albeit, naive) passion.

Does Bari have a Michael's or an Indigo? Michael's is perfect for potpourri and vomitus dreck and Indigo, despite advertising itself as a bookstore, merely sells potpourri scented candles, Godiva bars, and knick-knack's!

Indeed, Indigo sometimes sells pot-pourri, and it now mostly sells feminine knick-knacks. The difference between Indigo and Michael's is fading.

They should reverse the slogan: More, some music, and a handful of Heather's Picks!

I've totally stopped shopping at Indigo/Chapters/Coles. They have lousy selections and no depth within any category, save perhaps for travel. Some used book stores are miles ahead on depth and/or breadth, and for new titles, Amazon dominates Indigo in every way, shape and form (well except on Heather's pix and useless bric-a-brac).

I just realized in the other mall thread in City Discussions (aka: the American forum) that Canada doesn’t have a mid-market department store chain anymore, with the exception of those Hudson’s Bays that didn’t go upscale.

I know that that whole sector is dying quickly in the US, but there still are Macy’s and Dillards’ hanging around. In European countries they seem to be more resilient: places like Debenham’s, C&A, M&S, Karstadt etc.
