Our skyline already can be considered to punch above its weight, but once the next few years of towers start to rise, it'll really be noticeable. Only 11 cities (technically 12, if you count Jersey City) have something taller than 6XG.

Thank the stars we didn't build more interstates cutting through downtown. Visiting other cities around the US it's amazing to see how much damage they do to the urban fabric. To think of all the amazing places that were bulldozed for them....

Agree 100%. People don’t realize how much different this city would be today if they had built some of the highways and loops they dreamed about in prior decades. We would have been another San Antonio at best.

Brutalism is fantastic. Personally I love most of the architecture of the 60s, but yeah, the Town Lake Expressway would have been terrible for the city. Looking at how the city ended up developing, most of the highways wouldn't even have been utilized fully to this day.

Not the original commenter, but.....:

The Verizon switching tower in NYC; Habitat in Montreal (a nice mix of modern and brutalism); the Barbican Estate apartments in London; the campus library for U.C. San Diego.

Austin got lucky that our one freeway downtown managed to effectively cut-off all the non-whites from the white people and we didn't need to get really inventive like Dallas or Houston.
