Correct. They even added an addition to the store at one point. This was our neighbourhood grocery store. It was great for Whitmore Park and even Hillsdale.

When did that Safeway close? Was it open while the Southland Mall Safeway store was open? (They aren't that far apart.)

And Safeway had a store at Albert and 25th until recently. That's three really close together.

The Southland store was originally a Dominion when it opened in 1975. It became Safeway around 1980. Whitmore Safeway would have closed soon after.

Whitmore Safeway closed during the spring of '86 - immediately following the opening of Regina's first Superstore.

Did another grocery chain take the space after 1986?

From what I remember, it sat vacant for 15 years until Dan Farthing retired from the Riders and began the gym there.

Wasn't there a bakery in that spot before Level 10?

Buns master was in the Albert Park shopping center, down from Brown Derby. Unless they had two locations?

I know the Sears Mail Order center that was attached to Safeway was quickly re-leased to Sarcan. I just can't picture anything opening inside of the old Safeway location unless maybe a pop-up store here or there. Possible WP Gardens moved inside there after they outgrew the parking lot spot out front?

Buns Master had numerous locations until the grocery stores figured out how to bake decent buns.

Here's the jingle for the older members.

Buns Master was located in a portion of the former Safeway store. They closed the location in the Whitmore Park shopping centre and moved it to the location on Gordon Road at Queen Street. Sears catalog was just a package pick-up inside Bregg Cleaners depot. WP was never located inside the former Safeway store. They opened the 'WP Inside' on Rae Street but kept the 'garden centre' on Grant Road for a little longer and then moved it to University Park shopping centre's parking lot.

I heard that jingle so many times that I don't think I could ever forget it.

Regina installing two-way bike lane along Park street. Really hope these become more common on various corridors throughout the city.

I'm not an expert on cycling infrastructure but it's awesome to see the city spending some money on this. If they add more like it, where would good spots be to add sections to connect existing pathways and bike lanes? From a purely selfish perspective, I'd like them to improve the Assiniboine bike lane and also continue the bike lane from Wascana Pkwy more permanently from the University to downtown.

I've said this elsewhere, but I'd love to see something like this on Pasqua street in the south end, as well as McCarthy in the north.

If I read the article right, this pilot section will cost only $50,000 and they are investing $250,000 per year until 2023. I'm curious what else the city has planned.
