I think so, looks familiar though I wouldn't be able to pin down exactly which meeting/presentation it was from.

Bayview station.

Right. Might have been one of the renderings shown when Stage 2 winners were annouced in February 2019.

That's a pretty major addition to Bayview. Not sure how well it goes with the existing station. My quesiton is, how can they build the Trinity pedestrian bridge without the Trinity complex?

Kind of neat that they updated some of the renders with the new livery, but...

They bothered to fix the livery for the Walkley station render, but not the extra second track?

Stage 2 LRT - Get Involved - Share your Snapshot Updates

The O-Train Fans Snapshot Updates (https://www.otrainfans.ca/snapshot) are our way of documenting, archiving and sharing the history of the O-Train station construction sites.

Over the coming years, we wish to continue this important project which also helps to inform citizens and residents of the work and progress being made at all of the station work sites. As the territory that the new extensions cover stretches across most of the city, O-Train Fans has developed a plan to enhance our coverage which would increase the frequency of updates.

The answer... our loyal rail fans and followers!

We want you to be part of this important time in Ottawa's history, by volunteering your time in helping us visit the station sites, taking photos and writing short descriptions of what is going on, and what is being shown in the images.

All you need is a camera or smartphone to take photos and ideally some basic photo editing skills (to adjust or enhance the photos taken).

If you'd like to know more, please follow the link : https://www.otrainfans.ca/news/stage-2-lrt-get-involved-share-your-snapshot-updates

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Five hurt on Trillium Line construction site

Jon Willing, Ottawa Citizen
Publishing date: 5 minutes ago • 1 minute read

Five workers were hurt on a Trillium Line construction site near the Ottawa International Airport on Thursday.

John Manconi, the general manager of transportation services, told council that just before 10:30 a.m. the workers were injured while working on a cage of reinforcing steel.

One worker was treated at the site and the others were taken to hospital, Manconi said. There was no information about the types of injuries and the condition of the workers in hospital.

Manconi said Ottawa police and the Ontario Ministry of Labour are with the contractor at the construction site. All construction activities have been stopped during the investigation, he said.

Mandy Downes of SNC-Lavalin provided more details.

“I can confirm that an accident occurred this morning at the Ottawa Airport, at the construction site for the future Airport Station and elevated guideway as part of the Trillium Line South Extension. Crews were assembling rebar cages when one collapsed onto five workers who were assembling the cage from the inside,” Downes said in an email.

“One of the workers was uninjured and the remaining four were taken to the hospital for assessment and treatment for injuries sustained.”

A Labour Ministry spokesperson said the injured workers’ employer is subcontractor Man Steel. A labour inspector attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

The Trillium Line expansion is being built by SNC-Lavalin under the name TransitNEXT.

The job includes extending the Trillium Line to the airport and Riverside South.

The workplace injuries are the first reported to council during the Stage 2 O-Train expansion project.

I biked along most of the existing line yesterday. The most activity is occurring within the Gladstone Station and Highway 417 area (mostly Highway 417 work I think). Other notable activity:

There was some geotechnical drilling going on at the Rideau River bridge (approximately where they will locate the new pedestrian/cycling bridge):

All the tracks and ties have been ripped up from the Ellwood Diamond to Mooney's Bay Station:

And there is a giant staging area already prepped adjacent to the Ellwood Diamond, east of the Airport Parkway and south of Heron Road:

That 417 overpass is scheduled to be demolished and replaced (rapidly) the weekend following Canada Day. If there wasn't a pandemic... the traffic chaos having the 417 closed from Thursday into the weekend would have been crazy!

Thanks for the updates!

Good Day. FYI.

City has posted a brief bit on "Tracking Stage 2 Trillium Line Rail Bridge Work"

https://ottawa.ca/en/planning-developmen...g-stage-2-trillium-line-rail-bridge-work

Quote:
Tracking Stage 2 Trillium Line Rail Bridge Work

The Stage 2 Trillium Line South Extension project will provide a fast, efficient, affordable, accessible, and environmental commuting option for Canada’s fast-growing capital city.In addition to further stimulating the city’s development, this project will keep Ottawa’s residents, businesses, and visitors moving in multiple ways through the creation of 19 new bridges.

About the bridges:
One of the most interesting aspects of the Stage 2 project is that the entire O-Train system will be grade separated, meaning trains will travel within a dedicated guideway that crosses over or under roads, paths, and other transportation routes. In order to achieve this, 17 new bridges will be constructed and 2 bridges will be rehabilitated on the Trillium Line South Extension project that will benefit the community in multiple ways.

New pedestrian bridges will be constructed at Bayview Station, the Rideau River, and Hunt Club Road providing pedestrians and cyclists with new, convenient and safe active transportation choices.

Construction of seven rail-over-road bridges along the extension will allow the LRT to pass seamlessly over vehicular traffic. The rail bridges over Limebank and Bowesville Roads will have two tracks to enhance the operational efficiency of the line.

A new rail bridge will be constructed at Ellwood Diamond allowing VIA Rail trains to safely pass below the Trillium Line without any impacts to O-Train operations. .

Finally, a new pedestrian/wildlife bridge will be constructed at High Road between Leitrim and Bowesville Station, allowing for pedestrians and wildlife to connect the natural areas that would be otherwise divided by the alignment.

How are they built?
Crews will start by drilling caissons, which are usually solid, deep foundations constructed from reinforced concrete to support the bridge superstructure above. Caissons are an important element of the construction industry because they can be designed to distribute the load of a structure evenly to a solid and sound rock base, which provides stability to the structure. As part of the Trillium Line south extension, approximately 74 caissons will be drilled to an average depth of 30 metres. To date, 32 of the 74 caissons have been completed, using approximately 2,270 cubic metres of concrete. The TransitNEXT team is close to completing the caissons that will form the substructure for rail bridges over Leitrim Road, Lester Road and Bowesville Road as well as for the airport elevated guideway. Caisson work will soon start at Mosquito Creek and Ellwood Diamond.

Above the completed caissons, crews pour concrete columns and pier caps that ultimately support the pre-fabricated concrete girders that create the bridge deck. The girders used on the Trillium Line South Extension are approximately 40 metres long, requiring a 300-tonne-crane to hoist them into place before they are secured using concrete diaphragms.

Construction of the rail bridges over Uplands Drive, Bowesville Road and Airport Parkway has advanced to the point where concrete girders are schedule for installation in June.
EnJoy!

I'm confused. They are claiming 19 new bridges, but 2 of those bridges are existing structures that will be rehabilitated. And I'm pretty sure one of those "bridges", is a tunnel.

The line crosses over 3 bridges; the river and the SE Transitway twice. The SE Transitway bridge is just south of the VIA diamond, so it will be rolled into the new flyover. That leaves the one just north of Greenboro maybe?

Oh yeah... For some reason, I thought the original line was road over rail the entire way.

I drove from Leitrim to Barrhaven today. The Line 2 bridge structure is now over Bowesville Road.

It is too bad we are not doing this all the way to the Dow's Lake tunnel. Get it done once and for all. I know, it is costly. Inevitably, we face another lengthy shutdown at some point in the future. Each time we shut down the Trillium Line, it impacts more riders and this will result in a loss of ridership at least temporarily. Post Phase 2, this is no longer the 'student train'. The city has to change its attitude. Long-term shut downs will no longer be acceptable.

Competently agree. This is the urban part of the line. The only part where you can't efficiently double track without at lest some shut-downs. It will serve, within 15 years, some of the highest density in the city and a major hospital. It will be (up to Carleton) the only section of the line that will have consistent all day ridership. Spending an extra $50-$100 million on a $650 million project would have been more worth it. Hopefully, the City plans to double track the Trillium all the way to the tunnel at the same time they replace the Carling overpass. Maybe even electrify the north section at that time.

Anyone have an idea how it might be before the Carling overpass has to be replaced?
