Yes, good on Winnipeg! I hope images like these make it over the border. One world.

I wish I had any optimism on this. It's been going on so long . . . so many wrongs, so many protests, so much the same, decade after decade. May it finally be coming to a head.

On the downside, have a look at the NYTimes article yesterday about the influence of US police unions. It sucked the oxygen out of me. Disgusting!

Yeah, the police unions are really strong, but the people are stronger. City governments are starting to listen. Once you start taking money from police departments (as LA has taken the first step to do [$150 million], with Chicago on the way), oh those motherfuckers will definitely start to listen. Grab em by the balls and twist.

If reading the above makes you uncomfortable, good. This rebellion should be making everyone uncomfortable. Change doesn’t occur through ease and comfort.

Now here’s some pictures!

Well, I hope you are right. I am not a pessimist, but deep systemic change is needed, and if these protests lead to that, we need to be prepared for a long fight to bring things to where they should be. There are so many things linked together: black lives, indigenous lives, mentally ill lives, LGBT... lives, minority lives, visible minority lives, and so many more + the full slate of behaviours, state ignorance, impediments + disadvantages of health, law, education, employment, housing, financing, opportunity + police reforms, and reforms of virtually every other government service + the private sector's multiple roles + infrastructure: transportation, schools, recreation, potable water, heat, internet . . . . . . It just goes on and on. (and then there is our culture/value/spiritual embodiments of power, inclusion, I'm out of steam; save to say the fight needs to be taken up/continued unrelentingly until the job is done. Gird yourself, there will be resistance as per always.

I need a great skyline photo ASAP!

^ Nice shots of both Ottawa and Winnipeg..Through pictures, Winnipeg really reminds me of Ottawa a lot. Their respective skylines seem to share some common building style elements.

This is my fav angle of Winnipeg, minus the parking lots in the foreground.
This image is a bit distorted though, fisheye effect from the drone I assume.

Yes... the green-domed building is Union Station. The CN main line goes right through downtown.

It's going to look even better when the new tallest is built.

That will have an impact for sure (the core is about halfway to the top right now), but a group of lowrises in the Railside development planned for the huge parking lots next to the tracks might make an even bigger difference from that angle!

For those unfamiliar with Winnipeg, the entire Forks area between the railway tracks and the river was a railyard up until the mid 80s... it has slowly transformed into what it is now.

The train looks really cool there, it stands out much more since it is a passenger train. Definitely a really nice shot, I miss visiting Winnipeg. It makes me crave Junior's and Jeanne's cakes!

Outdated Ottawa-Gatineau skyline shot. Around 2008.

https://twitter.com/ottawamag/status/1248263029264920576

This one is June 2020. Can't tell exactly where it was taken from (maybe an apartment tower on Riverside?), but it's looking west. We can see Lansdowne Park and TD Place Stadium on the left, a couple cranes along Bank Street in the Glebe and 60s/70s towers of old Ottawa's west end in the distance.

Hull sector of Gatineau and Alexandra Bridge (set to be replaced in the next decade), March 2020.
