I mean lots of people are amazed by the steam clock but that doesn't really mean much except for maybe the power of marketing.

For all we know they could be from Pleasantville, USA. You are right, it's all relative.

I think it is on par with the worst in the middle east. My wife lived most of her life in beirut and never felt nearly as afraid and vulnerable as when walking on east hastings... that was a one time experience never to be repeated.

This implies a complete failure of, and utter lack of imagination.
Or more likely a severe lack of experience having visited or lived in other North American cities with actual rough areas.

There are plenty of other North American big cities (actual BIG cities) that have way worse inner cities and rough areas, my friend.

And they have the better part of more than a century of intentional Sociological and urban planning policies intended to make them that way to an extreme that Canadian cities for the most part don't even begin to compete with - as bad as you imagine it might be here.

I interpret the design of Deloitte Summit as thematicALLY bridging the more formal towers of Pacific Centre and West Georgia, to the more functional architecture of the Post, upcoming, the still-daring VPL, The CBC and others. Deloitte is rather 'funky' and gives lighthearted permission to change themes.

Right now I’m getting Brazilian favela vibes, the chaotic way they pile on top of each other going up a hillside.

We just need a wild rooster eating garbage, tangles of cables, and a lingering smell of untreated sewage.

All in good fun, even though this truly is an awkward phase of construction.

The perforated mountains of the Summit are becoming more prominent.
They seem a bit jarring compared to the adjacent glass,
but I guess they are there to prevent overlook from adjacent offices.

One more floor of glass to enclose the first layer of cubes.

Repetition of the top 2 perforated panels is unfortunate.

The protruded sections would look better if the corners are all chamferred slightly. Just my own opinion for those who may be triggered.

There's been a long trend away from the chamferred corners towards pointy modernist corners, even though they save on unusable floorspace.
