Frances Bula is reporting "Transport Minister Claire Trevenna is telling the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade this morning that the contract for the Broadway subway will be awarded this summer".

So presumably still on track for starting work in the fall, and 2025 opening.

How many bids did they receive?

The BC government website last September showed three teams had been shortlisted. A fourth withdrew - presumably the SNC related team.

Well, interesting. I hope they are all legit and look forward to this getting underway. The next 5-6 years will see some really big projects completed.

Between now and October they're removing trolley lines at all the new station intersections along Broadway.

Just noticed on Rosemary Rocksalt's website:

Main St, Vancouver

Permanently closed due to expropriation by the Ministry of Transportation for the Broadway extension subway line.

Yeah the whole block is closed. Is this for construction staging as well? Seems early in the construction process to shut down the businesses.

i know they are doing various utility locations in that area, including the sewers, which would be quite a process.

There's always the possibility that, given the COVID-19 closures, it was financially better for some businesses to close earlier than originally planned. Stores are having to limp along during the partial openings and hope that they can make it through to the return of normal business. However, if you're already facing a closure in the near future due to expropriation, there's little incentive to continue losing money as there won't be a "normal" anyway.

I might believe that if they weren't all closed at the same time. Especially Tim Hortons.

From the B.C. bid site under the Broadway Subway project owners engineering services RFP - Amendments.

Quote:
Question No. 16
We would like to request a two week extension to July 31, 2020.
Question No. 17
In view of the fact that it is generally known that a Preferred Proponent has been selected within the past 24 hours for the Design-Build of the project, would the Ministry please extend the Closing Date for this RFP such that consultants that were previously committed to the unsuccessful Proponent teams have a reasonable opportunity to respond to this RFP? A minimum extension of two weeks would be appropriate in order to allow such firms to engage in the Relationship Review process, familiarize themselves with the scope of this RFP, formulate teaming arrangements/pursuit strategies and prepare high quality proposals.

Answer No. 16 and No. 17:
The Province does not anticipate changing the Closing Time of the RFP at this time.

The preferred proponent team selected to enter into final contract negotiations with the Province is:

Acciona-Ghella Joint Venture

Proponent: Acciona Infrastructure Canada Inc./Ghella Canada Ltd.
Design-build contractor: Acciona Infrastructure Canada Inc./Ghella Canada Ltd.
Design contractor: IBI Group Professional Services (Canada) Inc./Dialog BC Architecture Engineering Interior Design Planning Inc./Mott MacDonald Canada Ltd./Ingenieria Especializada Obra Civil e Industrial, S.A.
Systems integration contractor: Acciona Infrastructure Canada Inc./Ghella Canada Ltd./Parsons Inc.
Tunnel contractor: Acciona Infrastructure Canada Inc./Ghella Canada Ltd.

Once opened, the commute from VCC-Clark Station to Arbutus Station will take about 11 minutes. This will save the average transit commuter almost 30 minutes a day, while also relieving traffic congestion along Broadway. Construction is scheduled to start later in 2020, with the line going into service in 2025.

Great that it will start construction this fall! Even with the pandemic raging on! I hope they will get the UBC extension started during this construction period and have it open not too much later! Has the alignment beyond Arbutus been decided on yet?

someone i know showed me some plans for Arbutus Station. seems to be they are looking to do 3 99 B-Line bus bays. 1 on the street along Arbutus, and 2 on the east side of the P/L between the station house and Arbutus Greenway. i do hope it is enough space since buses come so often.

These were the preliminary renderings they posted.

Wild guess will be unload on Arbutus and then two loading bays in the "loop"
