Vancouver was on the hunt for this also. Hoping they don't get it, because they're not real hockey people to begin with.

Surprised nobody mentioned this yet:

Baseball to remain at Re/Max Field after Randy Gregg-led group agrees to 10-year deal with city
https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/baseball-to-...rees-to-10-year-deal-with-city-1.4947018

Dr. Gregg has some good ideas, hopefully they can come to fruition.

Good to hear. Hopefully the city residents respond well and support the site.

Pair this with a gondola, river walk, pump house cafe and some housing...

wouldn’t that be quintupling it and not pairing it?

Unless AHS step up and explain in greater detail their plans for a quarantine cluster at Edmonton - Edmonton is out. Clubs need to be checked for temps and symptoms in their USA/CAN departure City and then waived right on through at EIA after Passport Control without quarantine on buses to to the JW. Otherwise with even 1 case found at EIA or quarantined it’s dead on arrival.

The fact that the Edmonton area has the lowest number of COVID cases in North America (it very well could have the lowest cases out of the other cities in the running except Vancouver) and that these planes will be charter flights it is very easy to manage testing and transport players/staff.

Lots of people saying if the 14-day quarantine rule is in place in Canada when these players come up, that'll potentially affect Edmonton's bid.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

AB announced a 'quarantine cohort'... which likely is being crafted to permit The NHL.

How much could Edmonton actually make from playing host to the NHL playoffs?

UAlberta suspending hockey, basketball, and volleyball entirely for the upcoming season, blaming funding cuts to the program.

With respect to NHL hubs it probably going to be a Vegas and Toronto. I would of loved for Edmonton but it’s not going to happen. They need Toronto to be one of the hubs.

The Feds have latched on to the 'cohort quarantine' concept now. Vancouver, Edmonton, and Toronto are the three candidates.

I wonder if how the protests have changed the NHL's calculus though.

I think you are right - and the US arenas could end up having protests for many causes as this will be globally telecast.
