Are they talking about orientation complete at the latest of July? Or occupation of tower complete ? It makes a huge difference. Some one in the Lumina thread said they are getting close to completion too. I mean Lumina only started digging 3 years ago?

The new food court needs to be opened ASAP. The current one can't even be considered a food court, though it goes without saying the mall right now is a sad state of affairs. Maybe just me but it seems like the finishing work on this project have really slowed down...By now I wouldve expected at least the old and new malls to be connected.

Both McDonald's and Starbucks looks like its ready to open, as is PresoTea and Body Energy

Can anyone who works in construction comment as to whether or not the pandemic has reduced the number of workers on sites?

It probably hasn't. Its probably more of a stocking/logistics issue on getting the materials they need to finish the jobs so they probably have to wait before they can continue other aspects of construction.

We're lucky we aren't Seattle, Washington State declared construction non-essential and all work had to be stopped on construction projects.

I drove past on Saturday or Friday and all the paper in the McDonalds is off the windows, you can see everything inside now, someone should take some pic...

They have been lit up for nearly 2 weeks now. So not sure if it's any indication of it opening soon but hopefully

Is this for inside the mall? I was assuming it was closed because of COVID. Is it just renovating? This is the first time I saw it shut down so I was wondering what happened

Is that a Coke Freestyle machine?

Edit: nah, it's too thin. Must be for displaying happy meal toys or some such.

Sure, but then this THE Macdonald which appears in every corner , every street of the city. In fact there is a huge one just off Willingdon. Fine , just has to settle with going to Macdonald, Star Bucks, Tim Horton, KFC, Boston Pizza for meals because they are sooo conveinient!

To be fair they use BOTH "Mc" and "Mac" in the UK.

"Mc" (as in, McGregor or McDonald) is more popular and more prevalent in Ireland (both the Republic and in Northern Ireland) whereas "Mac-" (as in MacGregor or MacDonald) is more common in Scotland - which is where the name practice originates and derives from.
(remember that the Irish are more likely to be "O'Neill" rather than "MacNeill" or McNeill". Both mean the same thing, as in "son of Neill", or "of the "Neill's"

Within the rest of the UK (specifically England and Wales, they're both used interchangeably with no preference for either.

However, "McDonald's" being a brand name - and a well known international one at that - is specifically spelled and written the way we're all familiar with it here, and not there other way (MacDonald's).

And it actually matters more there since "MacDonald's" could actually refer to any other possible number of businesses and organizations that have nothing to do with the Fast food brand and who could otherwise risk brand-name confusion.
So I imagine in Scotland they would habitually say or write it as "MacDonald's" but only because that's how they always write that name there anyway. Which also indicates to you that in Canada when you do see the "MacDonalds" denotation to a business, it's usually a good sign that the people behind it or who started it DO have Scottish roots.

The irony of all this of course is that it (the fast food brand) is an American company made what it is today by a person who had neither Scottish nor Irish roots nor any ties to anything in the UK. Ray Kroc's parents were Czech immigrants to the US. He did however partner with the two McDonald brothers (who founded the company) who were themselves children of IRISH immigrants and from whom he bought out the brand name. So that might explain the spelling.

The more you know
(*insert NBC Rainbow swoosh here.....for those familiar with the reference)

Apologies for the digression to the mods.

There was a McDonalds in the mall before, this would just be the replacement since its old store was wiped out.

I always thought Macdonald is same as McDonald , after all I always only ordered Big Mac never Big Mc. At the end of the day , it is a place which sells burgers.
Very Amazing indeed.
