I'm not sure how those would hold up in court (not that I care).

What's funny is if you call the cops they are immediately asking for any and all camera footage, or canvas neighbouring businesses for their footage. But perhaps they can't use that evidence if it came down to it.

You have no right to privacy when in what's considered the public domain.

The same reason the Media can shoot people at accidents, crime scenes, same reason the public can record anything they want in public and post it to youtube.

If your camera records what is considered private property, you'll likely end up fined or in court.

Same reason Police have to get legal approval to record or monitor private property.

Surprise, surprise.
So there's no view or daylight at all from that top floor lobby
- they should have been a bit lower down, which the drawing shows.

Yeah they said lowering it would improve the daylight for the lobby and not be as visible for neighbouring buildings.

They were also supposed to angle down towards pedestrians. It does seem to angle down a bit.

Nice to see!

Still can’t believe that the Sears redevelopment has no lighting whatsoever on that corner.

Think they could at least have a strip of lighting or a ticker...

That's too bad as I really do enjoy that 3rd floor view from the corner. However, I'm not too disheartened here as the Winners cashier area also offers a panoramic view of downtown from the 3rd floor, although snapping a picture over the shoulders of the cashiers can be a little awkward.

But yeah, it is really interesting that this City: both public and private sectors, keep implementing projects that don't reflect the most ideal benefits or logical sense. Having the screen mid-way not only allows a 3rd floor view of the City from the corner, but it also enables people on the street to view the LED screens better, which is the basic tenet of advertising. The LED monitor on top of Telus Garden office building is essentially useless for being so high up. You need a binoculars to read prints on it.

Hopefully it's a mistake and they'll fix it.
The document posted by Jollyburger says it should have been lower.

Pic by me today - trees have been planted.

They left the one scraggly looking tree.

Ah, construction for the park has finally begun - nice. And what's with buildings on Davie still not having any balcony glass? They sure are taking their time.

Thanks for the updated photos Officedweller. The Safeway development is the best project this part of town has seen: not only because of the aesthetics of the structure, but also the residential density and amenities it provides. The commercial podium is essentially the size of a mini-mall, and exactly the kind of space that downtown lacks. It has totally changed the character of this once sleepy corner. If we have had such developments for the past couple of decades here, this area could even rival other major downtown shopping streets. The West End revamped OCP came a little late, but for the couple of spots that are allowed higher densities, the growth has been tremendous.

You had almost exactly the same retail for the past couple of decades. It was a 1995 Safeway with an in-store Starbucks and a few retail units before. It'll be a slightly bigger 2020 Safeway with an in-store Starbucks and a few retail units afterwards. With rental residential units on top at the same density as the new rental building next door, the new rental building across the street, and the new rental building round the corner.

It is not a mini-mall, it is a Safeway. If you want a mini-mall in the West End you can head for the glamour of the Robson Public Market.

Yeah, but those are smaller, and without the dense residential towers on top. Can't even compare.
Besides, the Safeway development has two towers, and that's more than the new rental towers nearby, which are themselves great additions to the neighbourhood. You know you can think of whatever you want about this development, but there is simply no need to come in to prove me "wrong".

You sound triggered.
What's the square footage difference between old safeway + starbucks vs. new "all in" safeway?
