Entering off the plaza there were a few shallow steps (up or down ?) to the driveway lobby, and likewise there were a few regular steps (up or down?) from the upper mall itself.
The main lobby level (where Yew was located) is a level up at the same or similar level to the top floor of H&M (since there was a doorway to the Four Seasons when it was Holt Renfrew).

So any retail expansion using the main hotel lobby / conference level would have to be a level above the upper mall
(ie a 2 level retailer with a lower level entrance on the upper mall)
The only existing retailer I could see expanding upwards would be Harry Rosen, but not sure how they are doing (COVID aside) with workplaces being more casual.
I think the former ballroom is above Harry Rosen.
You can see the curvature of the rotunda in the former Seasons space.
That space plus Chartwell could also be repurposed as a 2nd level retail space and still leave a decent lobby area for a new hotel.

I think it went down from the mall to the lower lobby and the rotunda was also a few steps down to the lower lobby.

That's poor design, putting that tall a headboard in a room with a low ceiling,
plus the mattresses look either tall off the floor or thick
(compared to the 1970s mattresses the room (ceiling height) was designed for).

The combination probably makes it look worse than it is.
i.e. shoehorning Fours Seasons' "luxury standard" designed for taller ceilings into an older property with shorter ceilings.
One-size does not fit all, which shows the problems with standardization.

The suite above looks like it has a transfer floor or something above, because it has a uniform low ceiling throughout.
The pic below only has low beams, but the bed is still too big for the space.

Look how tall the bed is here compared to the armchair.

Was 4 seasons a 4 star hotel or 5? By the looks of the interior it had it was barely a 4 star imo.

This blog says it lost the AAA 5 Diamond status in 2003.
It still had 4 Diamonds.

Someone mentioned W Hotels could be a possibility here.

Of interest - W Hotels is retrofitting the former Marriott at Hudson's Bay Centre Toronto - which is also an old 1970s property which no doubt also has low ceilings.

Interesting. I've never actually stayed in any of the high end hotels in downtown. From what I know of is Fairmont Pacific Rim, Rosewood Hotel Georiga, Shangri-La still the top tier hotels? How would they compare to some of the Vegas hotels like Venetian and Aria which I've been to? I know a lot of the Vegas hotels are gimmicky but the two I mentioned had some very nice rooms.

Those Vancouver hotels probably have better service, Venetian/Aria are probably pretty close on a cosmetic/amenity level.

While the Chicago Apple store has been mentioned, my guess is the Mexico City Apple store may prove to be closer to what Vancouver gets. They’re both good examples of how Apple’s retail vision is that of public gathering spaces attached to outdoor squares. Space is limited in our upcoming version but the intention is similar.

Not sure if I missed it but is there anything else definitive that the rotunda is coming down soon? Anything on the inside look like it's getting ripped out?

The smaller "baby rotunda" structure is already beginning to be removed. The interior of the mall is completely closed off in preparation for the removal of the main rotunda right up to and around the escalators (which are still accessible) near the former BOSE store. Pretty major. Demo is imminent I'd suggest.

is Sephora moving? from the signage it seems that they are moving to a location next to their current store. Is there a tenant lined up for that pretty prime corner space?
I wonder if they had too many issues controlling theft with a street and mall entrance.
