Anyone know why Stantec and JW Marriot got those red lights? I thought they were no longer required since the airport was decommissioned.

rule of thumb is any structure taller than 200’ if my memory is correct and sometimes less than that depending on circumstances. it applies to monuments and towers etc. as well as buildings. even without an airport we still have air traffic - helicopters, small planes, armed forces and emergency services craft etc. interestingly enough, it’s only recently that transport canada allowed led instead of incandescent bulbs. the rational was that at night they wanted anyone wearing an infra red helmet or glasses to be able to readily detect the heat signature of the bulbs.

True about other air traffic. But then you look at Calgary and Vancouver and they don't have red lights.

I really wish the provincial government would do something with the Terrace Building, even if it's just pig lipstick. It's becoming more of an eyesore in the river valley while the rest of downtown has dramatically improved.
