Would a parallel track alignment and setup be feasible here. There might be HSR, or even just HrSR here one day.
You have the crossing on gilmore still and one off of production near the small costco

Below is straight from the City Report which can be found

https://eagenda.burnaby.ca/sirepub/cache/2/nnuhymhqflnelc2vgp4mzhaf/147901272020100145314.pdf.

"Trains destined for the single-track Thornton Tunnel must queue until the tunnel has been ventilated after the passage of a preceding train. This queuing currently takes place east of Douglas Road, where the adjoining land uses are primarily industrial and park. The queuing presently cannot take place closer to the tunnel because a stopped train near the tunnel would extend across Douglas Road, blocking the crossing for an unacceptably long time."

"The sound of a train starting or stopping is far noisier than that of a train moving. A train has a small gap between each car. When a train stops, that gap disappears and each car impacts the one ahead of it. The sound of impact runs from car to car along the length of the train. The process for starting up again is similarly noisy."

"As a result of constructing the Holdom overpass, this starting and stopping activity will move westward to Willingdon A venue, and thus be located close to residential developments in the Brentwood Town Centre. The magnitude and extent of these effects is not yet known, nor has it yet been determined whether or not it is possible to mitigate them.

"The project will also cross the riparian area of Still Creek, at a location that is already urbanized. Some mitigation of the impact to the creek may be needed"

Below is the response back from the City. I have talked to a few people and they seem concerned about this as well. The stopping and starting of a train makes a cannon like noise that will be heard for blocks and will even affect Brentwood plaza.

No, the shifting of train stopping activity to Willingdon has not been decided yet. That shift is related to the proposed construction of the Holdom overpass, as described in the Council report that you’ve already seen. The project is being led by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, with participation of the City. The port authority is proposing two rounds of public consultation this year, with the first anticipated in late April. Only after those two rounds would a final decision be made on whether or not to proceed with the project.

The project’s technical work includes consideration of noise issues in the area. Based on that analysis, a decision would be made on whether or not to include a noise barrier in the project. It’s important to first understand what the options are, and what their effectiveness would be.

If you have any more questions about the project, or want to make sure you’re notified about the open houses, I recommend you contact Dhaneva Panday (cc’d) at the port authority. They are leading the project.

I'd like to have some of what you're smoking.
It seems like top quality stuff.

I'm only joking, but seriously, Vancouver (and by extension BC) can't even get basic public transit right or even light rail or trams; High speed trains just seem like a pipe dream.

Would love to have them here though.
Once you ride them in places like Japan or in Europe, you can't help but feel like you're still living in the horse and buggy era.

I skimmed over it and from what I understand the cannonball train noise you'd experience would be while they're building the Holdom overpass - in other words temporary.

They currently stop further back because the trains would encroach on the road crossing. With an overpass they'll be able to queue further west permanently.

Burnaby Heights along Hastings has gone though quite a transformation over the last few years. There are a number of these types of buildings going up right now.

... especially the ceiling heights of the retail spaces, which are nice and high in the new buildings along Hastings.

Not too many places left to build on in the area.

Which means whatever they're able to sell from a project like this will likely be a high return and ROI for them.

Marine Dr is slowly but surely seeing more of these types of developments. It's taking a bit of time, but a 4 storey corridor is starting to shape up along Marine.

Would just like to say that the following buildings:

6444 Willingdon Avenue and 4241 Maywood Street, 6525 Telford Avenue, and 4960 Bennett Street have all moved forward and reached second reading as of April 20, 2020.
