Given that there has been a lot of talk here about the new Saskatoon Public Library building, I thought I'd share a bit of information regarding the status of the project.
In March of this year, the City of Saskatoon issued an RFP for owner's Representation Services. Those proposals were due on April 20th with the successful proponent to be selected by mid-May.
Among the duties of the Owner's Rep (likely a Project Management firm) to occur in Phase 1 of their duties is the development of a detailed project plan, a schedule and an budget. Procurement of Design Services isn't until Phase 2 of the Owner's Rep's services. Oversight of Design Services and Procurement of Construction Services are Phases 3 & 4 of their duties.
The RFP goes on to list some milestones that will be of interest to most of us:
- Procurement of Design Services: June 20 - Fall 20
- Oversight of Design Services: Fall 2020 - Winter 2022
- Procurement of Construction Services: Winter 2022 - Spring 2023
- Oversight of Construction Services: Summer 2023 - Fall 2025
- Logistics for Occupancy: Spring 2025 - Winter 2026
- Post-Occupancy Review: Early 2026 - Early 2027
So, looks like a new Library opening is likely sometime in 2026.
