4 story in Byron. This is my area and I hadn't even heard of this proposal lol. Always wondered what was up with those empty lots. Glad this got turned down though, what an ugly design. As the ruling said, the developer didn't even try on this lol.

Does anyone have a count of how many cranes are up in the city? Not just the three downtown but the entire city.

Old Oak has nearly finished all the 2nd floor concrete walls on Sugarcreek building. Already prepping for the 3rd floor slab in part.

The old City Heating building on Queens just east of Talbot was being demolished today. This property was the subject of a heritage claim a few months ago.

It plus the adjacent parking lot would be ideal for a major twin tower project with 4 levels of underground public parking, ground floor grocery store and other retail, 4 levels of podium tenant parking and 40s rentals/condos.

Hopefully the "landlord" doesn't own the parking lot?

I'd have to search back, but for some reason, it's in the back of my mind that the Leach family also owned the parking lot as well as the building. But I'm not 100% on that.

Edited, found this Free Press article from last summer. Leach does own the parking lot as well as the building, and the city said at the time they would only issue a demolition permit when a building permit was issued. Wonder if that's changed?

I don't think it's been sold yet, although I wouldn't be surprised if Old Oak did end up buying it to have that contiguous piece of land. But for right now, it's just site cleanup, similar to what had to happen at Wolsely Barracks before the Superstore and the houses behind it were built. Long term military land like that could possibly have explosives or other harmful things underground that have long been forgot about.

Assume it is Western which is demolishing the homes on the SW corner of Richmond and Windemere. Haven't heard if they have any plans for new buildings on this corner or will leave it as lawn for the future. They have lands at the research park and alot of land around Brescia for future growth.
