All done for now. The beams are in place and the highway is open:

Nicely done! This reminded me of that Saturday after Thanksgiving when all traffic were forced off the Queensway at Exit 126(?). I saw City Police at every intersection corner (especially on Carling Avenue) and wasn’t sure if they were related.

"(MTO) Hwy 417 near Lees Ave
Click on the icon to view the traffic webcam"

Images not so impressive on a 5K monitor. (Zoom 100%)
I guess that's the best they could do.

Good Day.

The image you have is post work.... camera is looking eastbound from the Nicholas bridge , seeing the K-E / Lees bridge.
You can see the LRT line passing under the 417 southbound to picture right. You can no longer see the Nicholas bridge.

The previous images above are from during the work, when MTO re-oriented the camera
to see the Nicholas bridge almost under it, looking westbound, with south being picture left.

EnJoy!

Seems to be progressing pretty well, even now. With Québec placing construction back on the essential workers list, I wonder if it might impact projects in Ottawa.

Super happy to see that they had lanes closed and the central barrier almost completely dismantled between Maitland and Parkdale. I can't imagine how they would have done this without COVID as it would be absolute traffic chaos! Was this supposed to be done on weekends only? Looking forward to my soon-to-be smooth ride through this stretch of the 417 soon

I drove for the first time in ages and noticed the reduction to 2 lanes a direction. That's the kind of thing they couldn't have done before. It seems they're taking advantage of the pandemic to speed things up.

Does it mean that the 4th lanes are almost ready to go?

I think they are shifting the middle barrier including lights/signage. That is why they had to add all that temporary lighting on either side of the highway. Once that is done, they just need a bit of paint to complete the project as far as I can see.

Does anyone know if the current lane reductions was always in the plans? I can't imagine, if we didn't have COVID19, what the highway would look like at rush hour with only two lanes Woodroofe to Carling! Is it possible that they originally planned to do the work at night only and re-open lanes during the peak hours?

There actually is a slight feeling of that when you drive down that stretch at high speeds.

The original plan was to move the barriers in and out nightly to do the work in the median (removal of old barriers/lights, install new storm sewer, new tall wall barrier, and new illumination). The quick moveable barrier (QMB) makes shirting the barrier quick and easy. But having access all day will certainly improve productivity!
